I am considering buying a new computer. I have a Canon Pixma 8500 Printer, an Epsom Perfection 1650 Scanner, and an HP Laser Jet 5mp printer. If I buy a computer with Windows Vista on it will these devices work with it? Also, I am confused as to whether to get a Dell or HP computer.

The good news is that your Canon iP8500 printer is Windows Vista compatible. Driver page for them is here:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=357&modelid=10440

More good news, the Epson Perfection 1650 scanner is also compatible with Windows Vista.

It would also appear that your HP Laser Jet 5mp printer is compatible with Windows Vista:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25481&prodNameId=15013&swEnvOID=2093&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=lj-44462-1

Whether or not to get a Dell or HP is a preference thing. The biggest thing you have to ask yourself is, how much are you wanting to spend on a new system? Both vendors are fairly comparable as far as hardware and support. The biggest thing I should mention is that, ensure that when you buy your system, to tell whomever you are buying it from that you need Windows Vista 32 bit. Not all of your components were compatible with Vista 64 bit.
Best of Luck and hope you have lots of fun with your new system!

Ya, all your devices will work on Windows Vista. To get all your devices to work on Windows Vista, you have to procure Vista Drivers for the same. If you are unable to get the Vista Drivers then you have to install the devices with COMPATIBILITY MODE OF WINDOWS XP. Still you can use them on Vista.

Dell and HP both are the best. Go for anyone.

Do I need a new scanner bulb?

It sounds very much as if the scanner is faulty/failed. The warming-up phase is to ensure that the scanner lamps output is steady, making for consistent scans. Usually this is just a simple timing circuit.
Having once tried to fix a broken flatbed scanner myself, I found that obtaining the correct replacement lamp for it was impossible - I think inkjet printers and scanners are considered "consumable". You may be better off buying a new printer. Alternatively, if it keeps producing good prints, consider buying a separate scanner. HTH

Canon Pixma ip3600 message saying printer is not online

This could be a problem with the port. If you have the printer attached to a USB hub, directly connect to the computer. Try connecting to a different USB port and test the current port with a known working device. Consider trying a new USB cable (minor damage could be a factor in signal loss).

I hope this helps.

Did you try uninstalling and re-installing the drivers. Uninstall everything including the canoscan tool bar, Arcsoft photo studio and Omnipage. And re-install.

Hope that helps,

Canon Pixma IP 8500

Sounds like the print head is bad or seriously clogged. If you have done repeated print head cleanings with no success, I believe Canon sells the print head if your unit is out of warranty.
