My Fresh Air by EcoQuest blows out black like dust/substance. So much so that around the unit and on the wall is turning black. Is this working properly?
The unit is designed to drop particulates out of the air. If you have a heavily polluted area there are more allergens/dust in the air and this might create a 'dust-shower'. The unit charges particles negatively so the particles bond with positively charged particles. Then the particles drop out of the air or stick to a nearby object. This could leave some black stuff on the wall. You can easily wipe this off, most of this is grime/dust.

I have a Fresh Air unit. I cleaned the unit and after I was finished it won't turn on at all. I did notice when I was 1st unplugging the unit the plug was kind of hard to pull out of the back of the unit. I verified the fuse and power cord are okay. The activator clip is depressed. What else can I check?? It's only about 2 years old. Thank you for any help! Kim
