SOURCE: Lid problem
A common easy fix for this problem is making sure the screws on the hinges (right and left side of the lid) are tight. Loose screws will cause it not to properly srike the lid switch and the unit wont run since it thinks the lid is open. If they are tight, you will probably need to replace the lid switch itself.

They list a part number for converting from portable to permanent installation.
