It doesn't spin, agitate, or make any noise what so ever. I had her move the dail to all location turn it on and off the machine doesn't react. I also had her play with the lid switch to see if it was making.

  • johnsbailey Apr 25, 2009

Yes it filled and then stopped doing anything after that!

  • johnsbailey Apr 25, 2009

No noise and I will need to move the washer to see under it.

  • johnsbailey Apr 26, 2009

Thanks I will take your advice!

Does it fill with water at all? Sounds like you have no power to the timer. You can bypass the lid switch to see if it is good Let me know if the waster valve is letting water in.

Does it spin? Make any noise?

It's probably your motor coupler. Is there rubber looking black stuff under the washer you may have to tip it back to check

  • Mathew Johnstone Apr 26, 2009

I'm pretty sure it's your motor coupler fairly inexpensive if you fix yourself. You will need to take cabinet off to repair this.

Washer will not rinse on any cycle

Well if it won't rinse it won't pump out wither right? The pump is mounted on the motor. The motor won't pump or spin if the lid is open. I would check the lid switch
themobilian_3072.jpg
When this pump is going counterclockwise the water stays put. The machine agitates.
When time for rinse the motor goes opposite direction. If the lid is open the washer will not spin or pump out. I suspect you must have a lidswitch issue. Here is a video which shows how to check it without guessingthemobilian_3073.jpg

Describe your 24032 \ 24036 Top Load Washer Problem changed the motor coupler and now the motor won't work. washer fills up but won't agitate or spin or drain

Sounds as if your lid switch is open. You can by pas it under the control panel on the right in the back it is a the wire plug. Connect the black and brown on the switch side which will allow you to just plug a new one when or if you deciced you needed this "safety" feature. Do not put any part of your body in machine while spinning. Your welcome, Masta tech.

Kenmore washer top load not cycling

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.########) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

You can also go to the following Sears site and click on "Manuals", enter the stock number, select "residential Washers" and click on the actual model number.

If it neither drains nor spins, the first thing to check is the Lid Switch. This prevents the machine from draining and spinning if the lid is open.

I assume that you cannot hear the motor trying to turn.

See the following for how to access the console and Lid Switch connection.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=6f8112b458c05fcc8f6d1a4139b9a723

Following is a Whirlpool installation and maintenance PDF on top load, direct drive washers. It has a description of how to by-pass the switch.

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, remove the two plastic clips from the console, remove the two screws under the clips, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires that you release the console and pull the cabinet.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (Usually a number such as 110.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts. You should be able to find the model number on the cabinet after lifting the lid.

If you cannot hear the motor turning at all, the problem points to one of a few places.

1. The timer. Check to see if it is moving at all.

2. The timer motor, this drives the timer.

3. The Lid Switch, If this is bad, the washer won't get into drain / spin mode.

4. The motor or capacitor themselves.

Following is the Whirlpool PDF on top load, direct drive washers with a troubleshooting section and sections on testing components.

Open and close lid, listen for 'clicking' sound. If no 'clicking' sound, replace lid switch. If this washer has a hidden lid switch, check the lid hinge screws and make sure they are screwed in tight.

Kenmore 70 series

First thing is to remove the 2 screws from the console, they may be hidden in the front or bacl of console. After removing screws, lightly push the base of the console towards the front of the washer and pick up. This will expose your lid switch connection. Using a jumper wire, jump out the black and white wires then try advancing your washer into spin/drain. The culprit will usually be the lid switch assy.

Mrquest
If it is draining the water then the motor is running. ou most likely have a broken motor coupler between the motor and gearcase.

Remove the two screws that hold the console to the cabinet and flip the console back.
Remove the two clips that hold the cabinet to the rear panel of the washer and unplug the lid switch harness. The cabinet will tilt forward and slide off.
Remove the clips holding the water pump and move it to the side.
Unplug the wires from the motor and remove the clips holding it.
You will see the motor coupler.
Make sure you can turn the gearcase shaft with a pair of pliers so it is not locked up.
Post back with the complete model number from the washer if you need further help.
Thanks, Mike
