Could you explain what do you mean by "to open a download"? As i understand it you want to download something , for example in Ubuntu - in the menu select Applications > Add/Remove
There you select in the "show" the option "All available applications " and in the "search" area you are just introducing the name of software , if it finds it - just put a tick in front of it and click on "Apply changes" .
Another way to do it would be to do it in terminal . To open the terminal click in the menu on Applications > Accessories> Terminal .
Type there - Sudo apt-get install name
So , instead of name just type the name of the software . For example if you want to download and install Wine type
Sudo apt-get install wine
Hope it will help you .

Installing from source in linux is not very easy...... but once you know what to do, then it becomes a very easy task.

STEP 1 Tar.gz and Tar.bz2 Packages
The installation procedure for software that comes in tar.gz and tar.bz2 packages isn't always the same, but usually it's like this:
1.Download the tar.gz or tar.bz2 package
2.Extract the file
3.Open to the terminal
4.Use the cd command to change to the directory where the package is extracted
5.Use the following:

$ ./configure
$ make
$ make install

Without Using The Extraction Method
Open to the terminal
Run the following:
$ tar xvzf package.tar.gz (or tar xvjf package.tar.bz2)
$ cd package
$ ./configure
$ make
$ make install

STEP 2 .Deb Packages
Installation of .deb packages are in different forms or methods depending on the users understanding and how the user is flexible with the terminal.

1.Download the package
2.Extract the package
3.Change to the directory containing the package
4.Run the following

sudo dpkg -i package_file.deb

1.Download the package
2.Open to the terminal
3.Use the cd command to change to the directory containing the package

FOR X86 PACKAGES.........
$ chmod +x filename-ver.*
$ sudo ./filename-ver.*-linux-i686.runFOR X64 PACKAGES........

$ chmod +x filename-ver.*
$ sudo ./filename-ver.*

where ver is the version number (the whole number before the decimal point... eg; the 4 in 4.103)
!!!!THANKS A LOT!!!!

Free download msoffice

So you are looking to download Microsoft Office for Free, but can't seem to find any legal way to download it.
You have gone to sites that have links to download Microsoft Office for Free, but they only lead to more ad driven sites.
Well you have come to the right place.
Now I can't tell you how to download Microsoft Office for Free, but I can tell you how to get a Microsoft Office copycat free of charge.
The software package is called OpenOffice and it is free to download.
Now this isn't made by some 2nd rate developer, but is made by Sun Microsystems.
Sun Microsystems is a pioneer in the computer world and always produce high quality products. So instead of doing something illegal like Downloading Microsoft Office for free simply check out OpenOffice and you will see that it is the same as Microsoft Office and it won't cost you a cent.GREAT SOFTWARE
Openoffice is great software, because it is the result of over 20 years of development.
It is a completely "open" product which means anyone can report bugs or request new features.
Quite simply does everything you want from Microsoft Office at a price anyone can afford..FREE!

If you know how to use Microsoft Office you will feel right at home with If you have files that were created in Microsoft Office you will find that they compatible with
Also if you are worried that your native language might not be supported rest assured that it will be, because OpenOffice is developed world-wide in many different languages.
HONEST SOFTWARE has been developed using a "No Secrets" approach. In plain English this means that everyone knows what is in it, so there is no funny business going on with it.
Everyone knows about how it works and can suggest improvements on it.
The statuses of improvements are posted to a public wiki so you can decide if you want to take advantage of enhancements or bug fixes.
The package gives you a Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Power point Style Program, Database, and Drawing Program.
This means that you have the equivalent of Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access.
Think of how much these cost and compare it to free and there is no need to spend the coin since you can save the files in Microsoft Office format so there are no compatibility issues.

In today's age when many people are leaving Microsoft Windows for a Mac, Linux, or Sun it is nice to know that your files can move with you without worry.
This is because OpenOffice is made to work on all operating systems and it is nice to know that you will never have to worry about operating systems and your files again.

Boot from usb

Introduction UNetbootin allows you to create bootable Live USB drives for Ubuntu, Fedora, and other Linux distributions without burning a CD. It runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. You can either let UNetbootin download one of the many distributions supported out-of-the-box for you, or supply your own Linux .iso file if you've already downloaded one or your preferred distribution isn't on the list.
  • Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7, or Linux, or Mac OS X 10.5+. Note that resulting USB drives are bootable only on PCs (not on Macs).
  • Internet access for downloading a distro to install, or a pre-downloaded ISO file
Features UNetbootin can create a bootable Live USB drive, or it can make a "frugal install" on your local hard disk if you don't have a USB drive. It loads distributions either by downloading a ISO (CD image) files for you, or by using an ISO file you've already downloaded.

The current version has built-in support for automatically downloading and loading the following distributions, though installing other distributions is also supported:

A rectangle with a star has appeared saying i need to configure some thing

Its hard to tell because each version of Linux has its on special files that it can download. Look in all of your applications and see if you find a program called Synaptic Package. All you have to do is click on it and it goes to the repository and will update all of the packages and its dependent packages automatically. Not all versions have Synaptic, some just say Software manager, but its the same thing. So if you loaded Skype off of the Internet then you probably don't have all the files as Linux does not work like Windows. You can look for the Terminal window to open and type sudo apt-get install Skype see if that works, but again, if the program did not come from the specific repository then it may not update. If you want to remove it then you can either find it in your file manager program (again in applications) and delete it. Or you can try sudo apt-get remove Skype. Third option is to right-click on it and see what options you get if one says cut or delete then you know what to do. The sudo options will ask you for a password which you should have, its the root password. Last solution is to reload and start over, I've done that more than once :).

Frence is set as default on Linux OS. but no option to change to english in parametres

It sounds like someone installed it with only one language. It's then practically impossible to change it without a deep knowledge of Linux. What flavour of Linux does it use? You can download the most recent version from their website and reinstall. Linux stores files in a different partition to the OS so provided you tell it not to repartition you shouldn't lose any data.

No software.

Go to this website:

Brother DCP-350c Downloads

Select "Drivers" from the first window.

It will then bring up a page to choose your operating system. Select the appropriate one.

Then you will select your language. (English by default)

Click the Search button.

A new page will open. Click on "More Information" for the driver/software package.

A new page will then open with a "Download" button. Click it.

When the Download window opens, Select "Save" and save it where you know where to access it to install after the download. If you are not sure how to save it to a certain folder, save it to "Desktop" so it will be right there when you are done.

Any other questions, please use the Comment button to reply.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Acer aspire one trouble downloading

Are you downloading software for linux. I know that there is a limewire for linux and an msn for linux. When you save your files also, you need to choose whrere you want them to go. It's a little confusing at first because linux's filesystem is a little different than windows. If you want to save files then you need to find /home/"your linux username"/desktop. "Your linux username" is the username you use to sign in with when you first log into linux.
