Question about Maytag MBR2556KES / MBL2556KES

Open Question

Maytag MBL2556KES bottom freezer. Last week we noticed our fridge was not keeping cool, put a thermometer inside and overnight watched the temp go up to 62. Cleared out fridge & freezer, noticed back of freezer was solid with ice, covering the vents (a good 1-2" thick). Unplugged and let thaw, cleaned coils (on the botton of fridge), let sit unplugged for 24 hours, then plugged back in. Plugged back in, fridge is keeping steady at about 37, freezer is fine but noticing frost building up on back again. Had read about the defrost heater, timer and thermodisc possibly being bad. Where can I find these. I cannot find any specs on the fridge so I'm not sure where to start. Thanks

SOURCE: Freezer cold- Fridge not. Ice build up on freezer

I really believe your adaptive defrost located inside the fresh food compartment and inside the control panel is defective. It puts your refrigerator on a timely defrost and if defective this problem you listed in your post happens. Yes we may need to also check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat but with my experience with that type of Adaptive Defrost Control is famous for its failure.
ADAPTIVE DEFROST CONTROL Part Number 61005988 You can find it located on two of my websites. Some models like yours came with a Defrost Timer. We will need just look inside the control panel and see for sure. Here is a photo of the Adaptive defrost. If you should need to contact me please send an email or try to answer here. Problem is I don't get notifications when someone comments. appliancepartsouteast@live.com

SOURCE: Refrigerator keeps running

Good day,
Timer is O.K. It's doing what it should be doing. Likely the defrost thermostat mounted on the top of the cooling coil has failed. I't's a round 1" disk clipped to the top of the coil, with 2 wires coming out of it.
Remove rear panel in freezer panel to access the tstat. Could be the main calrod heater as well, but it rarely fails.

SOURCE: I HAVE A MAYTAG MZD2766GE,

HI. There are two causes here, in this situation. The most common will be a faulty defrost timer, or adaptive defrost control board. The defrost mechanism will vary form unit to unit. Most newer units will be equipped with an defrost control board. This will be located in the control housing, just above the heat shield, in the upper right had side. Older models will have a standard defrost timer mechanism. If this device fails, the evaporator heater Assembly will not receive the command to defrost the coil, on time. The easiest way to isolate the cause, will be to test the heater element. If the element is functional, the defrost timer/board, will be the culprit.

Defrost heater assembly test procedure:

The defrost heater is usually located at the back of a side by side freezer or under the floor of a top freezer. It will be necessary to remove obstructions such as the contents of the freezer, freezer shelves, ice-maker and the inside rear or bottom panel of the freezer, to access.

The panel may be held in place by retainer clips or screws. Remove the screws or depress the retainer clips with a small screwdriver. On some older top freezers it is necessary to remove the plastic molding to access the freezer floor. Removal of that molding can be tricky, so try not to force it, if possible. If you decide to remove it, you do so at your own risk. it will break, if forced. Warm it first with a warm towel, or hair dryer, set to low heat.

There are three primary types of defrost heater elements; exposed metal rod, metal rod covered with aluminum tape or a wire coil inside a glass tube. All three elements are tested in the same way.

The heater is connected by two wires. The wires are connected with slip on connectors. Firmly pull the connectors off of the terminals (do not pull on the wire). You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the connectors. Inspect the connectors and the terminals for corrosion. If the connectors are corroded they should be replaced.

Test the heating element for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should display a reading somewhere between zero and infinity. Because of the number of different elements we cannot tell what your reading should be, but we can be certain of what it shouldn't be. If the reading is zero or infinity the heating element is definitely faulty, and should be replaced.

SOURCE: maytag msd2641kew fridge side is

Sounds like a defrost problem, is there ice on the back wall of the freezer? If so the defrost system has failed. The most common repair is a Part# 67004757 defrost thermostat and adaptive defrost board Part# 67004704. Even with the parts in your hand, you will need to de-ice the freezer to replace the thermostat in the freezer section, then unplug unit to replace the adaptive defrost board located in the controls of the refrigerator section. Normally it can take about an hour to complete.
Good Luck

How do i set temperature

Most fridges have only a plastic dial located somewhere in the rear of the food space inside the fridge that simply says "cooler" or "warmer" Turn this dial to change the temperature. If you want to know what the temperature is you will have to put a thermometer inside the fridge for a few minutes , open the door, and quick read the temp before the thermometer warms up. I keep a cheap thermometer with a large dial with a red indicator inside my freezer all the time and that way I can see how cold it is every time I open the freezer.

My maytag french bottom freezer drawer fridge has stopped working.model MFI2568AES I found out that the door was cracked open for about a week and the problem worsened over time .... I have since cleaned...

Not exactly sure whats going on based on your description. But let me tell you what I had to deal with:
Same situation where some fool left the drawer open, it caused the railings inside the drawer to freeze. I applied heat with a blow dryer to thaw it and had to realign it.
I've also realized that the freezer unit is what supplied cooling to the rest of the refrigerator (through forced air) and noticed that it works the same way with all the fridges ive delt with (maybe around 15 or so). So it doesn't make sense, if the freezer isn't cooling then the fridge shouldn't be either being that it uses the same source and it passes through the freezer first.

That said, I wonder if the fridge compartment is cooling?
Do you hear the compressor running?

My Maytag fridge is not working, but my freezer works fine. What do I do? The freezer is on the bottom, with the fridge being on top

Hi
Do you have any ice cream in the freezer? If it is soft than the freezer is also too warm. If you do not have icecream then you will need a thermometer to check freezer temps. Freezer needs to be 10 degrees F or colder down to -10. fridge should be 34-38... Sometimes freezer temps can seem cooler than they are with out a thermometer to test it. Also look for frosting up inside the freezer. Check that your door seals are in good condition. check that doors are closing completely.
Please let me know If I can help further.

Refrigerator is not working, freezer is working

Sir, To solve this problem, you must open the compressor area at the back bottom of the refrigerator and chek the temperature of the pressure line. If the temperature is between 55celcius to 60 than its ok. Or else you need to change the refrigerant. I suggest you to contact the service authority.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Maytag FrenchDoor- fridge not cool

My friend you need a new circulation fan motor.
As you can see the diagram.
Your freezer do not need fan to be cold, but your refrigerator need a fan to deliver cool air into it.

Freezer temp too high

Air must circulate in the freezer when working properly. I am guessing the recirculating vent in the freezer may be blocked which would not bring warmer air back to the coil to be cooled. As for the door, I theorize there may be too much negative pressure which pulls the door in while you were pulling out ... don't have solution yet.

Frige problem

This is almost a word for word common problem. On frost free fridge freezers of this type all cooling is generated through the freezer side and is merely forced into the fridge side through airflow. Therefore if you have a problem with the fridge you have a problem with the freezer section. The most likely cause is that the coil is frozen up. We would always suggest defrosting unit overnight in case it was simply a door left ajar being the cause of the fault. If the unit then pulls the fridge temp down and it was not the door ajar then you probably have a defrost problem (heater or defrost thermostat, or defrost timer). If it fails to pull the fridge temp down on restarting then it could be the fan or part of the defrost circuit or even possible the cooling circuit. The normal outcome after defrosting is that the temp will drop in the fridge due to air circulation improved, which will probably remain cool for 2-3 weeks until the coil becomes frozen again. On either result I would contact an engineer on the 2nd failure occurrs so that the engineer can establish the exact cause. Hope this helps.
