It's normal for a device to heat up during use and charging. As long as it's not too hot to hold, there isn't a problem. If it is hot enough to burn you I'd replace the battery

My kodak m863 wont turn on. and when i put the battery in the camera gets hot

There is a short in the primary part of the systems control board, and the battery gets hot because it is been loaded down. This is not cost effective to repair, it is far cheaper to replace the camera with a new one.

Try another set of batteries first, your rechargables could have come to the end of their working life.

Camera turns hot after putting batteries

If your camera is getting hot when you turn it on, then YOU HAVE A SHORT CIRCUIT in your camera electronic component(s) that causing the camera to become hot (rather unusual condition if you can feel it heating up!...): if it is just over 12 months, try to get it repaired under warranty... you can only ask!

Hope it clarifies the situation.

Charging batteries

Hi Ava, thanks for coming to FixYa.

It is not good to leave your battery on the charger longer than 2 hours. Depening on your battery type, it should not take longer than 2 hours to charge up.
If you leave it on longer than that, it will get too hot, and might make a fire hazard. Also, the hotter the battery gets, it lessens the life of the battery.
Most battery chargers will not automatically turn off, so you should monitor the charging time.

Thanks for coming to FixYa. If you have any other questions, you can leave me a comment.

Namaste
