Did you check the rectifier/regulator? AC Power comes from the stator via the reg/rect which converts it to DC volts and sends it to the battery.

Does any one know if there is another stator that will fit my 96 KTM 250 sx Thanks, search online stator rewinds, and get a price for one to be re wound.
  • Examine each individual coil head on the stator for black marks, indicating burned wires. Carefully cut the protective rubber coating from each damaged coil with a utility knife.
  • 2 Study the direction the wire is wrapped around the coil head to determine if the top or bottom end of the wire is attached to positive or negative terminal clip. Remove the terminal clips from the base of the damaged coil heads with a Phillips screwdriver.
  • 3 Unwind the damaged wire from the stator head with your fingers. Clean the surface of the head with a piece of fine-grade steel wool and wipe the head clean with a lint-free cloth.
  • 4 Coil new copper wire, of the same gauge as the existing wire, around the cleaned stator heads in the same direction as the wire which was removed. Coil the wire tightly on the heads so there are no spaces or gaps between the wire wrappings, leaving 1-inch lengths of wire at the top and bottom of each head for attaching new terminal leads.
  • 5 Crimp new terminal leads to the ends of the new copper wire with a pair of pliers. Attach the terminal leads to the stator with the Phillips screwdriver.
  • 6 Set a multimeter to the DC "1X" or "ohm" setting. Touch the black meter probe to either of the main leads of the stator and then touch the red meter probe to the remaining main lead of the stator. Any reading on the meter confirms continuity of the wires, indicating the stator is functioning properly. If there is no reading on the meter, recheck the connections.
  • 7 Coat the new wire with liquid rubber and allow the rubber to set according to the product directions.

    Check the wiring on the connector plugs make sure all the wires are the same color on both sides, red to red blue to blue and so on. I had the same problem After replacing a stator and just plugging it in,after two weeks a new cdi and coil i noticed there were two wires transposed.

    I have a 83 kawasaki kz1100 i want to know how to install a stator because the three wires from the stator are black and the other three from the regulator wires are yellow how can i know which wires go...

    Originaly the 3black wires would have been yellow sounds like its been rewired, you can connect any one to any yellow as this is a 3 faze alternator and they all throw ou the same power, before you do so,(with the ignition key removed) use a multimeter set to ohms put red lead to one wire record the reading when you touch the black wire to one of the other two wires, next move the black and record reading to the other of the two wires, this will determin that you have continuity around the three circuits

    1982 Yamaha XJ 550, the battery will not take a charge. New battery, checked all connections, ran all the tests (stator, brushes, and alternator). Replaced the voltage regulator/recifier. Not sure what is...

    It is corrected properly, right? + to the wiring harness and - to ground ... right? Are you certain about the rectifier? Is the battery charged at this time?

    You know a alternator cannot make power unless you first put power into it ... right? Alternators (unlike most generators) are not self exciting. If your battery is weak or "dead", the alternator cannot make electricity to charge the battery. I don't know what the rating of your alternator is. Your battery should be fully charged before you do any more tests. If you have a 1 amp charger, allow at least 10 hours for a full charge. Don't cook your battery with a big, powerful, fast charging automotive battery charger.

    What are the symptoms of a ign. stator failure, 1996 KTM 360SX?

    Loss of spark. I had this problem, took the spark plug out and held onto the end while kicking it over with my other hand, barely gave me a tingle. You check the reading coming out the stator with a multimeter. Unplug the Red, black, and green wires coming up from the stator to the ignition. Test the wire for resistance readings (ohms), by placing the red point from the multimeter on one wire and the black point on the other. You should get arount 1.7 KOhms between the red and red and black wires, 165 Ohms between Black and green (+ or - 20 Ohms), and 1.85 Kohms between Red and green. If your readings are significantly higher or lower, your stator is fried.

    Still isn't charging. New battery in April. Mechanic put the meter on it at the wires that plug into the voltage regulator. 11.5 volts. He said it needed a volt. reg. Bought one and put it in and two days...

    He should have checked the output from the stator as well. This is the actual electricity generating part of the engine. From the stator power goes to the voltage regulator, and from there to the battery and other power supply wiring. Be advised that work on the stator can be expensive, both for parts and labor, as it is located inside the engine usually at one end of the crankshaft.

    How much volts should my stator put out on (18 h.p. briggs intek)

    If it is the two yellow wire stator it should put out at least 28 ac volts across the two yellow wires, if it is a single red wire it should put out at least 14 dc volts between red and any engine ground, both these readings are with the engine running full speed at (least 3200 rpm)
