Insinkerator cover control problems

We have a dual swith on to turn on a light over the sink, the other to turn on/off our insinkerator. The switch is dead, which had one wire running to each switch at the top of the switch, and one on the bottom that went to a screw wire holder that is marked Line +. None of the new switches I tried worked and I can't find a new dual switch with a Line + on it. Any suggestions will help

Sometimes there are 2 places to attatch wires on a switch, there are the screw connections, and sometimes there is a hole in the back of the switch. if nothing else, attatch a jumper wire from your hot wire of light switch, to hot terminal of insinkerator.

SOURCE: how to connect light switch

Nope, you have the wrong type of switch. The old one is what is called a 3-way switch. You need to purchase a replacement 3-way. The switch you currently have is a standard on/off switch and can not be used in that situation.

SOURCE: Connecting Leviton Decora light switch.

At the switch you have a feed wire coming in this brings in power which originates in the electric panel. You also have a feed or feeds goings out to other lts or switches, this you seem to have on the switch. instead of the closet switch loop.undo all the wires. find the only hot this is the one wire you can touch to the others and make different lts come on i reccomend getting a electric tester to do this. FInd the wire that goes to the closet lt. Once your sure put it to the side. wirenut all other wires together with the hot wire. this makes all other switches independantly hot. connect the hot to the switch and the closet lt to switch. I HOPE THIS MAKES SOME SENSE TO YOU . let me know if i can help

SOURCE: Wiring Bathroom light/vent/heater switch with 3 separate controls

Wiring a bathroom combination vent, heater, light 3 way switch means more wires. In brief, you need to run two cables - one a two wire and one a three wire from the switch to the fan.

Incoming power will have white black and ground.

The two wire cable for the switch to the fan will have wht, blk, and ground.

The three wire will have red, blk, wht, and grnd.

The switch will likely have 2 blacks and a red coming from it, with two blacks and a red on one side, and a single black on the other.

The fan should have a red, blue, green, black, and white.

On the fan end: Group all green/copper grounds together and use a wire nut to fasten them together. Tape the nut to the wires.
There will be five white wires coming through. For ease of handling, using wire nuts, connect two on one nut and three on the other.
connect the blue to a blck. Connect one red to one black, and the other red to the other black.

The switch will have one red going into the 3 wire cable, a black going to the 3 wire cable, and a black form incoming power to the side opposite the 3 wires, and a blck going to the two wire cable.

There. Confused?

SOURCE: my insinkerator wont run at all...

Hi, W/D here.

Your disposer is jammed. Locate the wrench that is with the disposer. Mine is in the flip out tray under the sink. It should look like an allen wrench. You can see what the wrench needs to look like by opening your cabinet, and looking at the very bottom of the disposer. Insert your wrench into the socket, and move it forwards and backwards until you free the jam. Then, run a pot of water and ice through the disposer (with it running) to further clean it out.
Best regards,

SOURCE: I am replacing a single pole switch that contains

You have the hot wire on the wrong side of the switch. The side of the switch with the fin is where you put the hot wire. On the other side of the switch where there is no fin is where you put the other two wires one on each screw. When you have it wired that wat your switch will work like the old one. Also if you would like the lights to come on with the top part of switch. But works with the bottom switch you just need to switch the two wires from top to bottom.

How do i turn on an insinkerator

There are two different types, those that have the switch built into the top, and those that have a separate switch mounted on the wall or maybe inside the cabinet under the sink. It is possible that you have the type with the built-in switch that was installed with the separate switch too - in that case you would have to turn on the swithch AND turn the top.

I need a new sink basket for my In Sink Erator, Model 5-81. Where can I get just the sink basket?

Disposal sink basket is not sold separately.
Go to local hardware and home center for returned defective disposal and then see if they will sell the basket assembly.
Be sure to get all the parts. Parts are generally universal, but the clip-on ring is sometimes missing and the old one might fit or not.
Contact insinkerator, and see if they have a box of spare parts at their factory in China:

You have to take it apart and re-apply plumber's putty ... some specialize sink materials require different type of sealer, but stainless and porcelain use regular plumbers putty from hardware or home center.

It sounds like the disposal is not working.
These electronic devices sometimes have a shorter-than-you-want lifespan.

I am pretty handy at keeping stuff operable around the house.
Personally, I would wire a switch to the receptacle where disposal plugs in.

If receptacle is under sink, put switch where you can open cabinet door and click it on-off.
Some older homes, the disposal switch is inside the cabinet.

Our disposal will not turn on and we think it is a switch. How do we fix an insinkerator switch?

Underneath the motor is a red reset button. Push up on it to reset. If it clicks, it is the problem. Unit sjould work with wall switch, if not make sure unit is plugged in under sink andno GFCI outlets are tripped.
