Check S Curve 1.2V p-p on RF Test Point by Oscilloscope during Focus Search cycle and then check RF Eye Pattern 0.5V to 1.4V p-p on Oscilloscope.
Above said is technical way to test / check optical lens in cd/ dvd player.

Can not play recorded dvds or record them

Dear Kjwj,

Maybe the player laser lens is dusty. You can try cleaning it with a CD/DVD lenses cleaner disc, like the one shown in the link below:

I cannot provide info regarding the service mode codes because no information regarding the DVD player (brand and model) was provided.

Hope you may find this information useful!

Best regards,

Will not read CD or play,Can hear disc spinning but will not play, has 00 appearing on the LCD screen

OK, this is a very common problem regarding any CD/DVD players. The problem is that the laser lens of the unit is either "Dirty" or burnt out.

You can try to cleaning the laser lens using a ear-bud and some surgical spirits. Do this by dipping the ear-bud into the surgical spirits and gently wiping over the lens. If this sounds a bit to complicated, you will be able to buy a laser lens cleaner cd at your nearest computer store for under $5.

Please feel free to let me know of you have any questions.

Kind regards

I have a 6months old JVC DVD PLAYER MODEL MXDK11 by Victor company of Japan ltd-Malaysia.I have expeiprienced this problem with it in the last few days. whenever i plugg in power it does not read the disc...

Is this a DVD player situation or a computer situation? The product you selected is a motherboard when this seems to be a DVD player situation.

Anyways, it sounds as if the DVD Player is broken or the lens is smudged/cracked/not working. Typically these DVD players are made to be rather flimsy to ensure they break in just a few years or even months. This is all a stunt to make more money by either having you get the system repaired or replacing it through buying a new one. If the lens is smudged, cleaning it might fix the problem. However I never recommend it as the lens is extremely fragile. If the lens is cracked or just not working, you might as well forget getting the thing repaired as it would simply be less expensive to buy an entirely new system.

Here's a good website to find some decent DVD players. Once the page loads navigate to Electronics>Home Video. Once the Home Video page loads, click, "DVD Players" located in the menu on the left. Now you have a list of DVD players. If you want something specific, you can narrow your search by using the menu on the left.

Let me know if I can assist you further or if I can answer some questions you might have regarding this situation.

My DVD player is playing in back and white. How

If you haven't already, use a good DVD lens cleaner in the unit to ensure the problem is not just a dirty lens. Next (if this did not correct the problem) ensure the output of the DVD player matches the input of the TV.....dvd out-ch3, tv on ch3....dvd out-video, tv on video....etc. Let me know what you find

Dvd player only plays some movies

it might be sevral reasons:
1. Check if region code is the same for movies you playing and DVD player
2. If you using video CDs or copyed DVDs, player might be preventing to playback those kind of discs, due to copyright laws or due to different speed settings for DVD player and discks you using (for intsrance you player can playback DVD/CD+R, and you using DVD/CD-R, or mximum allowed playback speed is 16 you using disk recorded at 24, but this is in case you using burned/copied CD/DVDs)
3. Check it lens is durty. For that use CD/DVD lens cleaning disk
($6 in Walmart, if you are in US)
4. Check if movies you are have the same coloring system, i.e NTSC for US
5. Check CD/DVD for scratches, some DVD players can not playback scratched disks
Please kindly let me know if my information was helpfull for you or you need more info
Good Luck

Dvd doesn't load (spin)

try to clean the lens with soft dry cotton buds. do not put any cleaning liquid stuffs just clean soft cotton buds or swab. and if u have a microduster(compressed gas for cleaning data processing and electronic eqpt.) much better coz it removes dust accumulated inside the lens assembly. and if still the same, have it check by a qualified services technician.

How do you clean the lens on a DVD player?

Please do not open your DVD player, unless you know what you are doing. Best thing for you to do is buy a CD/DVD lens cleaner kit available at most Audio video shops and Radio Shack. It consists of a Disc to which a small brush is attached. Place the disc in the tray, and just follow the instructions given in the CD packaging. You should not - at ANY COST - touch the lens, or use things like cotton buds, or use any solutions. You could scratch the lens, or cause misalignment.
