Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My cursor keeps shooting up to the top middle of my screen and i have no idea why. My computer is an Asus s300c and it is a touchscreen and i use the touch pad. I hardly use the touchscreen and when i do i never touch that section of the screen where it goes up too. i have restarted my computer multiple times when it does it but it usually returns. It renders my computer useless because it clicks and i can't move it from that spot when it happens and i have to either slip in quickly when it stops and restart the computer or force shut it down. Can Anyone Help? i have checked everything that i think will work but nothing happens

I have seen the same problem with a Dell computer that was caused by the driver for the touch pad. Suggest you go to the vendor web site and see if they have a new driver. If you have the latest go to an older driver, sometimes a new driver may have a bug.

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 530 randomly shuts down and restarts

Sounds like it could be a virus. Or, a heat buildup problem - are all fans inside machine working? Is the fan inside the power supply operating? Was there any work done inside the computer recently?
If the hdw is all ok, go out and buy yourself a copy of Norton Internet Security 2009 - 1 user lic - $49.99 @ Staples. Do *not* buy any earlier vers. of this software! Install, update it, run computer computer scan - probably will find/remove some/many viruses.

If this helps, please take the time to rate my response to you.
Thanks and good luck.

SOURCE: Toshiba Equium A210 Laptop and the screen keeps on going blank

Hi...I have had the same problem with my A210 laptop as well over the last year. The problem is sporadic and it would just happen out of the blue.My daughter has the same laptop and the same problem. The screen would go blank ,but you could tell the computer was still functioning somewhat in the background. The only way to fix it was to reboot and if you were working on anything it was lost.I also recently had another similar problem.I had the laptop set to go to sleep when i shut the lid. This worked great for a year or so.When i opened the lid the screen would come back on and i could continue using the computer where i left off.But recently when i opened the lid the screen would come back on for a few seconds then go blank ,just like it did as described in the first problem above. Not sure why as i had not changed any settings on my computer. It happened every time i closed the lid then opened it.A pain as had to reboot to get it back. Here is the fix my friend discovered.Click on the ATI icon in the taskbar and open up the CATALYST CONTROL CENTER.Make sure the advanced view is selected. Now choose "display options".Put a dot in "Detect whenever catalyst control center is opened",and leave the other 2 spots unchecked.( I had a dot in these 2 places ). Now apply the changes and close it out. I have had no problems since doing this with the screen going blank. Not sure why this worked ,other then the computer was getting confused along the way and shut off the screen.Just be aware that if you hook your laptop to a TV you will have to revisit the ATI setting and change them back.....Hope this helps...Dan

Touchscreen not working.

Do you hear a beep when you touch the screen? If you do it is more than likely a software issue, or the cameras are misaligned..
First thing to try is Scroll Lock Calibration.. Press Scroll Lock on your keyboard 5 times quickly, your cursor should move to the top left of your screen, press and hold your finger on it until you hear a beep, remove your finger and itshould automatically move to the top right, repeat for each corner, when it is done the cursor will move to the middle of the screen, and the touch screen should be working
If the computer does not beep when you tocuh the cursor and the cursor does not move when you remove your finger it means your touch is not being recognized... it could be a software or hardware issue, here is one way to find out..
First do a power drain.. shut down the computer and unplug everything from it (including the power cord) and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.. Now boot the computer into BIOS by tapping F10 on startup.. inside the BIOS touch the screen.. do you hear a beep? if so it is a software issue, if not more than likely it is a hardware issue
A few other things you can try... open the Touch Screen Configuration Tool inside the Control Panel, make suire the touch screen and sound are enabled, select the Troubleshooting tab, click Restore Defaults, try the Calibration function... beyond that you could try System Restore/System Recovery..
Good luck

ASUS Eee PC 1005HAB Netbook - Cursor Screen, How to Fix?

It is looking for something to boot from. Remove any CD and USB drives. Then try physically reconnecting the drive. From there you will need to verify in BIOS.

Check first boot in BIOS as well.

Asus netbook cursor stuck

Make sure there is not a lock on the top middle of the touchpad that you can press to toggle the lock/unlock. if so, press it. Otherwise I would try booting up in safe mode and see if the cursor locks.

On my daughters Asus Eee pc notebook 901/XP on start up the screen stays black and a flashing cursor in the top right though after several mins no change, how can i fix this.

It's possible that the disk-drive inside the computer has failed.
So, the copy of Windows stored on the disk-drive cannot be read, and Windows cannot start-up.

Take the computer to a qualified technician, for trouble-shooting (which may include replacing the disk-drive).

Is it still under warranty? (Was it purchased with a credit-card that automatically doubles the length of the warranty?)
