I HAVE A 660 SERIES MTD YARD MACHINE 17.5HP 42" DECK. HOW DO YOU ADJUST THE SPEED CONTROL.
I HAVE REPLACED ALL THE BELTS.

    sorry tonzo45 you have this posted under tillers, but what I read this to be is a lawn mower. if it is a lawn mower then there are 2 ways to control the blade speed. one is to change the pulleys the other is through the throttle. if it is a rotter tiller then throttle speed is the only way to control the speed is with the throttle

If the speed seems to be different after changing the belts, it should return to normal after they break in.

The 600 series has a top speed of about 5 - 6 MPH, see:

u do not have to remove the deck. all u need is a floor jack and some air pressure because the bolts may be very tight u will needs either a 7/8 or 13/16 socket and they come off normal lefty loose righty tight. good luck

Clutch/Brake Pedal Problem


first off your biggest problem is its built by MTD.they build about 90% of the riding lawn mowers you see in the stores that are 20 horse and under,every thing from a yard machine to a craftsman to a cub cadet. you need to get under it and fallow the linkage from your pedal to your rear transaxle. that link is adjustable if it is not , then the arm it attaches to is .you need to adjust it whichever way takes slack out of the belt, if all the adjustment is out then replace the belt and adjust it accordingly
