Darice is a type of plastic bead fill, so it "can" be washed, but because of how small the beads are and how many, it would take a very long time to fully dry, possibly a week or more depending on humidity. You cannot wash in a washing machine nor dry it in a dryer. Machine washing would ruin the seams of the beanbag and cause it to leak everywhere, or fall apart completely.

If or when it could be afforded, it is recomended to send the filler to be recycled, make sure none are left in the beanbags, and then you could wash the beanbags themselves in regular wash and refill with new beads.

Or, if you do not mind doing the work, you could empty the filler into plastic bags or buckets, then hand-wash them with a suitable strainer, in smaller, more managable sizes, where they can be stired around at intervals to speed drying, before puting back into the beanbags.

SOURCE: Are all bean bags filled with polystyrene beads?

Most older and traditional bean bags are filled with this material; however, newer chairs are filled with high density foam, which conforms to your body and then springs back into original shape once you get up.

SOURCE: I need to refill my bean bag. What kind of product do I need to buy and how often do I need to refill my chair?

You first need to decide what kind of product you want to refill your bean bag chair with - virgin filling or reground filling. Virgin beans are denser, keeping a nice round shape. Since all of the individual beads are the same size, they shift around each other with ease when you are positioning your body in the chair. Reground (also known as recycled) are not as uniform as the virgin beads. They are not always the exact same size, meaning it may take an extra moment to get yourself situated comfortably. I prefer reground bean fillings for my chair because they are better for the environment and cheaper to buy.

There is not set amount of time that dictates how often you need to refill your bean bag chair. It largely depends on how often you sit in it. The average time is about one year.

I need bean bag filler but don't know how much to buy. My chair is losing shape and I need to replace some of the filler.

This can be a little tricky since every bean bag chair is slightly different. From what I have read up on, here are the guidelines: a 6 cubic foot bag of refill will fill a bean bag that is about 35" X 35" X 40". Hopefully this will give you a starting point for your own needs.

What is the filler inside bean bag chairs made from?

Traditional bean bag chairs are filled with polystyrene beads. Polystyrene beads are good for filling because they are light and resist compression. They form to your body making bean bag chairs comfortable to sit in.
