Question about GE JVM1790SK Convection/Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Jvm1790sk fan comes on when i OPEN the door

WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED THE MICROWAVE DOESN'T OPERATE BUT WHEN YOU OPEN THE DOOR THE FAN INSIDE THE OVEN CONTINUOUSLY RUNS. I TRIED TO SET THE OVEN TO WORK AND IT JUST TICKS LIKE A CAR WITH A DEAD BATTERY AND DOES NOTHING...OPEN THE DOOR AND THE INSIDE FAN JUST BLOWS. I LOVE MY OVEN BUT CAN'T AFFORD A NEW ONE (JUST FINISHED PAYING FOR THIS ONE)

SOURCE: GE Advantium 120 Microwave fan stays on, off only when door open

Looking at the schematic in the service manual here, I would say relay RY6 on the small sub PCB (relay board) has shorted contacts.

That's the relay that runs both the fan and turntable.

It's possible that it may be a bad connection or driving component on that board, but in my experience, it's virtually always a stuck relay.

The part number on the relay as shown in the photo is hard to read, but it looks like "OJ-SH-112LM".

I should have one of these or I can point you to one if you want to contact me with the exact number.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

The bulb may have blown. It is often under an access panel on the side or back that is held on with a screw or two.

When I open microwave oven door . close the door again light comes on an plate spins an wont stop unless I unplug it

Inside the door latch, is a safety feature, that prevents the microwave from operating unless the door is closed. This feature can easily become faulty, or even come with the fault already causing the microwave to constantly operate whenever the door is closed.

Microwaves can be very dangerous in regard to holding HEAPS of voltage within the unit. I recommend getting yourself a new microwave, as attempting repairs on any of the modern units can, more often than not, be far more costly then the price of a new one.

Hope this helps.

That's probably a shorted relay on the control circuit board.

Hi

If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work. You should check the internal door switches, the high voltage circuitry and the circuit board for this kind of problems. But for that you will need a certified technician to help you make these repairs.

The automatic fan will not shut off. I shut the door and there seemed to be a spark and then the fan will not shut off unless I open the door. It sounds like it is always running.

I wonder if you've had trouble with the cooktop lights recently?

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one year guarantee.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

I have a GE jvm1790 microwave that when its pluged in, the magnatron fan runs with the interior light is on constantly. I can't start either the microwave or convection. Everything stops when the door is...

The megatron tube is not working. The microwave should turn off when the door is opened for safety. If it is still under warranty, return it. If not, you may consider replacing the unit. I know its expensive, but its just taking up cabinet space tonight.
