Take it out..clean contacts if its dirty...replace and try to reboot.
If that does not work..try to place hard drive in another compatible machine and see if it detects it.
If you are unable to do that...weight the importance of the information with the cost of professional tech service and make a choice. If its under warranty...take advantage if it.
