According yo my investigating, the 4 cylinder option on that car was a 2.4L engine. If that is correct, then there is no direct option to bypass the A/C pulley with a shorter belt. However, Autozone has a bypass pulley that can be installed where the A/C compressor is to allow you to drive without A/C. Here is a link to the page.... http://www.autozone.com/cooling-heating-and-climate-control/a-c-compressor-bypass-pulley
My guess would be, based on the age of the car, that the compressor is out of oil; meaning it doesn't work. It's not a simple matter of adding oil like to an engine.
Locate your AC compressor. The low pressure service port is located on the back of the compressor where the high and low side connections bolt to the compressor. Look on this line about 4 inches or so back on the line.
FOLLOW AC COMPRESSOR SUCTION SIDE FROM THE ACCUMULATOR CANISTER TO THE SMALL EVAPORATOR LINE GOING INTO FIREWALL LOOK FOR LINE WITH A BLUE PLASTIC CAP.THATS YOUR LOW PRESSURE CHARGE PORT.
The low side service port is on the large ac line, find the ac compressor, and follow the large ac line coming from it,until you come to it.If this was at all helpful, please rate, and thank you.
you would need a new a/c pump, however you you didnt want to replace it and could live with out the a/c, a cheaper option is to replace the belt and bypass the a/c. Most auto parts store will sell you a belt of the correct dimensions if you tell them you wish to bypass the a/c. I've done this for many customers. It can be done on just about any motor.
yes you should be able to take off your compressor and just replace it with a regular pully that you pick up at your local auto parts store considering it has the serpentene belt
You answered your own question? Fix the compressor! What state are you in? Do you need A/C? if not, bypass the a/c and use a shorter belt, if it does not interfere with anything.
