I changed the timing belt on my 94' ranger after it broke while driving, I also changed the water pump. The timing was set back as close as i could get it. The truck seems to idle fine and drives ok(for a 94). But there is a strange sound from the engine bay, like something is rubbing somewhere near the timing belt cover. Need help please. This is my daily driver

What is the growling noise coming from my 94 civic motor

Water pump or pulley most likely.

Always replace water pump and pulleys when you do the timing belt.

Also you may have overtightened the belt.

NOTE, Kevlar belts will make a "whirring" noise for a few thousand miles after replacement, but not a growling.

Why doesn't My truck start after changing the Timing belt on My 1999 Ford Ranger?

you need to pull the timing back apart pull the number one spark plug and role the motor over by hand to top dead center on the compression stroke the the mark for the crank should be lined up or almost lined up line it up perfect on its mark then set the cam to its mark install belt role over by hand 2to4 full rotation marks should line up perfect . install crank pulley fire it up for a split second shut it off and put it all back together

I'm not to familiar with these engines but it could be the crank is off one rotation. Was #1 at tdc when you set the timing marks?

How to replace the water pump on a 1984 ford ranger 2.8 litr

I just did one on a 94 "almost identicle engine"

This is the way I did it:

drain coolant-remove upper radiator hose-loosen fan bolts '4 bolts attaching it to the water pump'-remove serpentine belt-finish uninstalling the fan- remove 2 bolts securing the fan shroud to the radiator and it should slide out with the fan-remove pump 'be sure to clean the mating surface of the block before sealing with silicone and gasket to ensure it doesn't leak'

reverse the process for installation.

NOTE: if I were you, id replace the timing belt while your in there since the timing cover is nearly impossible to get off without doing this same procedure.

Good luck.

Is it possible that when the belt broke you may have damaged the engine (bent valve). Try advancing or retarding the camshaft sprocket by one tooth and see if that makes a difference.

The timiing is set by aliging the timing marks on the cam with the timing marks on the crank -- then the belt goes on.

the belt that drives the water pump also drives the power stearing pump and it was locked up and not allowing it to spin fast enough for it to work or the belt broke
