Have you tried different ports on the router? If so have you tried other computers hard wired in? Hard wire in one of your laptops for awhile and see if they lose connection as well. If so then the problem is the router, but if they can stay connected then I would try either updating your network card drivers or getting a new network card perhaps. Let me know if that helps any.

Since getting a new Dell laptop and Linksys E1000 (also have HP desktop), my internet connection keeps dropping (no problems ever before)- sometimes I can stay online for 2-3 hours or it can go in 15...

we need to first figure out whether it the modem or the router which is dropping the connection.

Please connect one of your computer directly to the modem, by pass the router and access the internet. If the connection drops then its the modem which is dropping the connection and you need to contact your isp to check it.

If the internet works fine directly with the modem then its your router which is dropping the connection. To fix the router we can upgrade it firmware.

To upgrade the firmware please visit the link below;

Note; If you are not comfortable upgrade the firmware then don’t do it. If not done properly then it can damage your router.

Disconnect the router, and use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer's network-port directly to the cable-modem (or DSL-modem), and try the "performance" of Internet activity.

I just starting using this wireless router and when I set it up the router software keeps saying I don't have a connection to the internet but I'm on the internet on that computer right now. ...

Make sure that there is not direct connection between your desktop and modem ( USB ). If there is any USB connection from the modem to the computer then it will go on linee but the router will not be on line.
Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

DSL line disconnects on WRT54GS only

Try to change the LAN IP address of your router to by accessing the router's Setup page. You also need to set your Westell modem to "full-bridge mode". You need to ask assistance from your ISP to bridge the modem. After that, set-up the Linksys router to PPPoE then power cycle it.

Telephone connection

Unless you have dial up, you arent supposed to be losing any connection between the two. If you are, i would call them up and have them come out to fix it for free. That is completely rediculous.
