Mmmm it's so easy,
First disconect the power, take the cover off, moslitly there would be 5 screws and two tab's on the top.
inside on the right hand side the magnetron it's a sylver box measuring about 4 in x 4 in x 5 in. It will have a plasic cover moslitly that would have to be remove first then on the magnetron there is 4 crews and one connector.
It should fall downard after.
If you have a power supply after the secondary , that may also be your problem.

Regards

Bob

No solution yet but have ordered a replacement high voltage capacitor. If this works, I'll let you know.
Your expert did not respond to one of my questions which was whether he had experience with this type of problem with a microwave magnetron. When he did not reply after a substantial period, I assumed he had given up on the problem.

SOURCE: GE microwave replacement magnetron

I also have a HotPoint (GE) Spacesaver Microwave Oven (MWO)that we got at Home Depot about 3 yrs ago. The magnetron quit yesterday and I found out online that this is a common occurance with GE MWO's. I found this string and thought I would attempt to have GE send me a magnetron to replace the defective original part.

I called Customer Relations (1 800-386-1215) and spoke with Nikita. I informed her nicely that I was aware that this is a common problem with GE MWO's and that I am a Union Electrician who would like to perform this repair myself. I simply needed the replacement part. She was very understanding and asked for the model and serial number and after a few minutes she supplied me with an order confirm #.

The part should arrive in a few days via FedEx and we will be back into space age cooking and also our appliances will still match. Thanks to all who posted to this string and clued me in (You have saved me a C note!).

Microwave not heating food

HI>if the problem of your oven is the heating then the problem would be on the heating filament that is MAGNETRON.It is a filament that is responsible in heating the oven.It is actually a square shape-type accesorry that can be found inside the oven's circuit. If this accessory is defective it would defer the unit from heating.Thank you for choosing FIXYA.

GE Spacemaker Microwave 5 years old Model JVM1440WH01 The Clock, Fan, Interior and Exterior Surface lights work, but it does not heat the food. Over the stove model,

the magnetron may be faulty on this unit... the magnetron is what heats unit... there is also a thermal limit on this unit mounted behind the control panel and will require removing in order to check... unplug unit and remove two wires attached to limit about the size of a quarter and round in shape..check contuinity and should be closed... if it is then most likely the magnetron has failed... is a replaceable part sorta expensive and requires taking apart the cabinet and removing a few componets to get to the magnetron bolts/screws ...
www.sears.com then hit the parts direct link up at top of the screen enter your model number and will give you a parts diagram check availabilty and price on your part....
sometimes cost verses replacement is worth buying another one.... but can be fixed... most magnetrons have 5 year warranty goes by serial number of unit or installation of unit if your the original owner.... good luck to you

The magnetron end of my microwave oven is damaged

The magnetron probe - antenna covering might have got damaged.Due to the presence of low quantity of food, the back power to the magnetron has led to the spark, there will be a light damage and it wont affect the working of the oven any time in the near future as long as this mistake is not repeated. If the oven is under warranty period its better to get the magnetron replaced:) if not, this is not a major concern.

The microwave was working great cooking bacon. While it was cooking the sound changed and it stopped cooking. The light was still on and it continued to rotate but it would not cook anymore. What's wrong?

first check the h.v. diode and the h.v. capacitor, one has opened up and is not producing h.v. to operate the magnetron tube, the cap is about 4" long and oval in shape with 2 wires coming out the one end,the diode is about 1-2" long black and can be square or round and are near the magnetron tube area of the oven, chk these first they're the cheapest to replace

Microwave

Microwave ovens can be worth fixing IF the interior is in good condition, the door seal is not corroded or damaged, and there is no rust around the base. If your Microwave is more than a couple of years old, it's magnetron tube probably burned out, and possibly blew a rectifier and fuse in the process. If it's newer than that it may just be a fuse...which would be much cheaper to fix.

Try to get it checked at a shop where they specialize in Microwave Oven repairs, so you can get an accurate diagonsis of EVERYTHING it needs before you commit to the repair. It will probably cost more than half the price of a new one if the magnetron needs to be replaced, so you might prefer to just get a new one, unless it's in good shape and you really like it.

Good luck, and I hope this is helpful!!

You've reminded me that my wife wants me to get our Microwave fixed. I guess I'll work on it tonight.
