If the FN key doesnt work then may some of your utility dirvers are missing however you can manually configure it by going to screen resolution properties and chose the option that what to do with second screen.

SOURCE: Acer Travelmate 8100 when pressing fn and f5 nothing happens

I found the problem. The drivers needed for the keyboard are:

Windows\system32\DkbFltr.sys
provided by Dritek System Inc. Version 1.3.00
Windows\system32\8042prt.sys
Windows\system32\kbdclass.sys

I looked at the current drivers for the keyboard. Somehow the keyboard must have been reinstalled or drivers got corrupted. I did a system restore to a time before I installed some new hardware and drivers. Then I looked at the drivers for the keyboard through the control paned =>
keyboard =>
hardware Tab =>
Standard keyboard =>
properties =>
Driver Tab =>
driver details.

And found that the drivers were different except for the last one in the above list

You can update the drivers. Do a search for the first one in the list and the second one in your windows directory(search for hidden files and system files). I found the files in my system32/drivers directory. You may also find it on the disks that came with the Acer.

I have looked on-line for the first one and could not find it. perhaps a better search term swould find it. I also looked on Ace rs site.

Good luck,

For a long time this key was disappeared from me laptop, just the same time that the fn+F5 key didn`t work.

Acer GZ5 will not show picture on my flat screen tv

Check if the cables are setup correctly.
Next step, choose the right source from the TV remote (i.e. HDTV1)
If you still can't get picture, try to lower the resolution on the PC - the TV might not be able to see the full res. Set it at 800x600 and see if that helps.
Last step, if still cannot see image, try to update your PC video drivers and try everything again.

if you are trying to use a lap top to display on a Flat Screen TV, then hook the laptop to the TV with a 15 pin D cable or a HDMI cable(what ever connector you have in common), the switch the TV to PC and then look on your laptop for an ICON that shows a TV set and acomputer screen together. On mine it is hold down the function key and tap the F6 key( Fn+F6) on some computers it is the Fn+F5 key, this switches the display from the laptop out to the TV on to the Aux PC input.

I have an Acer Aspire netbook that I want to hook to a projector. I finally got the right cord to hook it up, but it will not display on the projector screen.

One of the F keys will toggle between the Laptop Screen and the VGA output - look at the F keys and see if one has a picture of a screen often F4 / F5 - needs to be used with the FN key
FN key+ F4 Key (Or which ever key has the symbol on)
It will toggle between <laptop screen only><laptop screen and VGA output><VGA output only> Not necessarily in that order

Connectted to big screen monitor, the button Fn and F5 not work. what is the reason?

What is the screen Resolution set to on your current Display?

Try setting your current Display to 1024x768, then try the FN+F5 key
this might work. IF your current Display is set to high the other screen might not show any picture at all.

ACER cracked screen..external monitor???

Hi there.
The keyboard toggle you are using is the correct one.
Sometimes you have to hit Fn + F5 a couple of times to stay on there is no real set time. Make sure Fn + F6 is on so the laptop screen stays on.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
