You just have to lower your RF power so that the radio is putting out about a 2 watt dead key. Any higher and you will over drive the finals and burn out the final

I have this linear. My cobra 29ltd chrome is running about 9 watts deadkey, thats holding down the mic button without speaking or any noise for it to pick up, turn the linear on and it is dead keying around 90 watts. This linear is designed to handle uo to 10 watts deadkey input.

This is rubbish the others tell you

dead key i assume is CW mode ??? morse code ???

the radio will have a CW switching output on the rear
and you use this to enable the amp instead of constant RF from TX on am or FM

deadkey refers to CW TX enabled and no TX power out

ie key not pressed ie you only press the actual key to send a dit or a da

so if this is not the case

then 4 watt normal 80% mod am or fm should be aok to drive the amp

i think perhaps youve turned up the audio level on am or ssb
and this will over modulate the carrier

so retune the radio to factory levels

i tell people again and again

never adjust the radios setting inside
they are factory set
to get more levels do one of three things

increase your antenna and its gain using a better antenna
change the cable for good quality best is heliax cable solid copper
increase the RX and TX levels buy using a linear amp with a RX preamp

and thats it

or move home to a higher place

this will fix your setup

if you just much with the guts of the rig
youll end up with the authorities at your door from interfearance etc

if you mess with the coils and other inside the rig this WILL happen

so..... dont the factory sets them this way for a reason
i have repaired radios for 40 years

dont much with the output and its traps

How to turn down the deadkey on galaxy 48t to 4 watts the rf power knob will take it to 25 watts only

You can turn down VR18 which is your low power but as you turn it down your high power may go down also. If that's the case then you have to adjust L40,L42,L43,and L44 . If you don't have a scope don't even try it . 10 watts low may be the lowest you'll get. You can also try changing a few Elec. caps. to bring it down more and thats where the scope will really be handy.

Galaxy 88hl

always check your swr's.. it should be fine with those settings.
90% amps 1 to 5watts input is fine and then the modulation wattage of yours is good. most can take 50w RMS.
use short coax jumpers.. make sure the radio doesn't have the modulation limiter cut. and it is on frequency. and it should be good. maybe try putting little bit of wd40 on the microphone switch to see if thats the crunching sound..??
also make sure you have enough amperage.. and a good heavy gauge power wire to the amp..
if you have any more details let everyone know.. may help narrow down a problem.

I hav a 29ltd classic cobra cb radio i had it tweaked first did not notice a diference in transmission but reception is still normal then i installed a rxf 75 amp and my reception decreased and everyone...

Receive amps on a Linear's can cause this issue---the key question is what is the dead key wattage in the radio adjusted to?

You hook an amp up--jumper cable length between amp and radio is critical---the power output of radio is critical--put 4 watts into a 75 watt amp and it will be over driven-- The proper way here is with radio and amp hooked to a big dummy load adjust the radio wattage output so the radio keys up the amp and gives maximum forward swing on a watt meter. (in some cases as little as 1 watt output from radio)

Some people call this matching the radio to the amp---The antenna system then becomes involved--further adjustment of the radio with the antenna system connected will be needed (power output) for the amp to work well.

If just a 29 LTD lowest Swr should be on channel 20.

Note: also important to check the swr with the Amp on as if power is being reflected back at radio when amp is on more needs to be done.

Trying to find the right size linear amp to hook up to my Galaxy dx 949. I want max in/outputs. tired of being talked over. I have a Golden Eagle 150w amp, but have not connected it

That linear will be good for 100 watts of clean power. It has two MRF455 transistor which are 60 watts a piece. The cb will drive it with the carrier or dead key reduced to about 1.5 to 2 watts but i suggest that you read the linear's power while adjusting dead key not exceeding the 100 watts pep with voice. An NPC mod would be a good addition to get the modulation up with a low dead key.

Before you start the projection make sure you antenna system is in good condition high SWR will smake you linear in a hurry.

In factory condition 949 galaxy with a 3.8 carrier it will drive a 667v TexasStar. It is a low drive linear that will end all disputes as to who has more power. 8 out of 10 birds that escape will die of cancer withiin 72 hrs. Ok could not help myself. I would not suggest that unless you just want to damage other peoples receive. The v is for variable power. Hope this was of help.

Have you tried turning the mic gain up,and not knowing Texas star model numbers,is it a mobile linear,if so,do you have a sufficient power supply?Just some thoughts off top of my head.

I bought a used connex 4300hp. i had it "so

IT could??? peak power, 14-15volts yeah.. the 4300 should put out 80w by itself.. as long as you have a low deadkey ie 1-5watts it should be fine. just don't put high wattage into an amp like that.. it will get hot QUICKLY.!!.. make sure your swr's are low low low.. 1.7:1 or lower... so your not getting reflected power... i would put a wattmeter with swrmeter like a mfj. or vectronic cross needle meter inline just to monitor it.... they go for $75 @ most places. Good investment... call email if need more help
