Question about Wacom Intuos3 Graphic Tablet

Tablet won't respond; installed properly; pen not in Tool list

I've installed my tablet, the light is on but when I try to use it, it doesn't respond. Also the pen isn't on my tools list in my tablet properties. I've uninstalled and reinstalled (even got the setup from the wacom site), thinking it was software problems but it just doesn't work. Please help!!

The pen doesn't have batteries. It's powered by some kind of magic tech in the tablet itself. I have the same problem with my Intuous3. The blue status LED is lit, and stays lit, but if I move the stylus or the mouse over the tablet surface, the LED doesn't turn green, as it should.

I've confirmed that the kernel is recognising the tablet and there's a special device (/dev/wacom). Normally, for testing, you can "cat" this file (dump its contents). When doing this, any activity on the tablet will cause a lot of characters to echo to standard out (on screen).

This no longer happens, though. I believe it's because the tablet is no longer recognising the pen or mouse.

The effect is the same in Windows. The tablet used to work perfectly in both environments. It's only been subject to regular wear, being transported in a backpack on a regular basis.

USB problems maybe ? Or something to do with your tablet pen (batteries), or the tablet itself.

My Wacom Intuos Pen & Touch has stopped working randomly today. When I plug it in... It responds to and properly tracks my finger for 10 seconds... Once the wacom utility recognizes the tablet has been...

Using Windows?
Open up the Device Manager by right-clicking "This PC/My Computer" and select "Manage". On the left pane, click "Device Manager". Depending of the version of Windows you're running, the tablet could be listed under "Portable Devices" or "Mice and other pointing devices".
Once you see it, move that window off to the side so you can still see the entry for your tablet. Now use the tablet as normal until it stops working. If it disappears from the list, you've probably got yourself a wiring/hardware problem. (My tablet's cable eventually developed a bad USB cable from years of moving around/use).
Since the tablet itself still recognizes you after it stops responding on the screen, wondering if you may have updated the software/drivers lately (even by accident by clicking an "OK" dialog by rote...) - try "rolling back" the driver to an earlier version.
If this is really new, any chance you could use Window's Restore function to go back a snapshot or two to when it did work fine? Always back up your important files (say, documents/designs etc) to another drive before doing anything. Good Luck!

When I'm using Photoshop CS4 with my Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet, the screen tracking for the tablet only works for half the tablet. This happens with everything else as well, not just Photoshop...

Go to Control Panel, and open bamboo properties. There you select the "pen" tab. In the pen tab you will see tracking. Select pen mode and details. You can map the pad there. After mapping pen mode try it in mouse mode as well. Best of luck!

Tablet won't switch on.

The power on switch is faulty. replace it. The battery is fine as there is green light meaning that it is supplying the current. And since the power switch is not lighting up it is faulty. If replaced, the tablet will function correctly.

Wacom pen won't respond on desktop or internet webpages

Hi, this is how to remove application's specific settings:
"REMOVING APPLICATION-SPECIFIC SETTINGS  To remove an application-specific setting:
1. In the TOOL list, select the tool from which you want to remove the application-specific setting.  Then, in
the APPLICATION list select the application you want to remove.
2. Click on the APPLICATION list’s [ – ] button.  In the dialog box that appears, click DELETE to confirm your
selection.  The selected application is removed from the list, along with any custom tool settings that you
may have created for it.
Hint: To quickly remove all application-specific settings from a single tool, remove the tool from the TOOL list.
Then place the tool back on the tablet.  The tool will be added back to the TOOL list using the default settings."

Wacom tablet won't recognize pen

Hmm. I've had a similar thing happen with my tablet. Have you tried removing the tablet pen from the list of tools in tablet preferences and then adding it to the list again before checking the 'About' section of the tablet pen set-up and clicking the 'diagnose' button there in? As that worked for me when my tablet pen was not working. The pen was recognized by the tablet after that.
