Question about Daewoo F227B Monitor

1 Answer

No power in my Daewoo Monitor

I have a Daewoo Monitor model f227b that I purchased in 2003. It's worked fine until a week ago when the power indicator light in the center at the bottom of the unit would not show any indication of power. Usually if it was hooked up to power the light would be amber. If it had a monitor cable attached to a running computer the light would be green. I've taken in to Micro Center where I bought it and they couldn't suggest a solution. The power supply is internal so the power coming in is a standard 3-conductor ac cord computer cord. Is there a replaceable fuse inside ? Can the power supply be repaired/replaced ? There is nothing on the screen. It's totally blank.

In my case the power light blinks on and off and the screen is blank. Even if I use the power off button, the green light blinks on and off, never goes to amber or off completely as it should. I fiddle and after a series of unplugging of cables, power cord, etc. I have gotten the screen back. Each time it takes longer.

Hi, Youo have zeroed in on the problem area. It looks like a power supply problem. More often than not, there is a fuse inside. If you would venture to open the unit up, do a visual check on the fuse. If it is busted: 1. Clean - no burnt/scorching/black marks inside the glass tube, then you can simply replace and hopefully the unit will be operational; 2. Dark smudges - or small burnt metal pellets inside the glass tube, then it is possible that you have other defective components that caused the fuse to blow. Normal components that are known to go bad are the big capacitor and or the power transistor regulator. Most current designs uses a switch mode power supply where your mains AC voltage is converted to DC that powers a circuit that eventually produces a lower DC voltage say 12VDC for use of the monitor. Should you venture a DIY (do-it-yourself), pls remember safety precautions when working with powered electronics. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

My 6 year old Daewoo F227B began to fade yesterday and go a bit blurry. Is there a fix for this or do I need a new monitor. My computer is about the same age.

The back lighting which is made up of a fluorescent light array, dies, as you have experienced. The picture in most cases can still be seen but it is very faint. Yes it can be repaired.

Phone around to get an idea of cost, you will have to decide which option sounds good to you. With regards to the cost of repairing or the cost to purchase a whole new monitor that is bigger and has a warranty.

You may find that a new monitor is relatively cheaper, remember that the monitor is not to be thrown in the bin.

Take care!

Don't know how to decrease the brightness. It's straining my eyes. When I push the front bottom Menu button, a rectangle appears with the word Brightness, but I can't find how to decrease it.

Here is a manual for a Daewoo Monitor. On page 3 it indicates that there are buttons that show a right and left arrow above it. When you have the brightness menu highlighted press the left arrow button to decrease the brightness.

Hello. I have a pair of BX5 monitors, purchased in May 2003. Both have been working fine until a few weeks ago. One just stopped working. I have checked the cords and they OK. Power to the monitor is...

This is power problem, the cable might be ok but power might not be getting to the panel to power on the monitor, i will advice you give the monitor to a local repairer to help diagnose the panel on your monitor, the power diode on the panel might be bad or burnt, and will need replacement.

This is the best option since you are not electronically inclined.

Take care.

Vertical n horizontal ic

Are you asking about this LCD Daewoo (F227B) monitor? LCD monitors do not use Vertical/Horizontal IC like the CRT type for the H/V Yoke.
What is the problem with the monitor?
Common problem with LCD monitor:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for:
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

I'm trying to service a Daewoo Monitor f227b

The slot with the K on it is a Kensington lock, it is an anti theft lock and does not affect the disassembly. Most monitors can be carefully prised apart as they are only clipped together.

Daewoo monitor

If you know a little bit about electronics, then you can find or buy a multimeter to check the output voltage of the AC/DC power adapter (if it uses one, sometimes the converter/adapter is inside the monitor). In order to get a voltage reading from center "hole" of the end of the power cord, use a paper clip (thicker paper clip if you have it). If the converter voltage is good, then this monitor might be a warranty return candidate. Hope it's only a power adapter problem (you can find a replacement on Ebay) ZT3000 "Beta tester of "0"s and "1's"
