Question about Dell Dimension Computers & Internet

1 Answer

When I turn on my Dell DM061 (Windows Vista) Desktop the Microsoft Windows loading screen doesn't load properly and immediately goes to Startup Repair- which says it can't fix the problem. Before this started happening (when I was able to login in and use it) A random blue screen with a lot of writing about my memory? (RAM) quickly appeared and then my computer would restart. It won't enter safe mode when I press F8 on boot. I've tried Memory Diagnostics Test, Hard drive Test and a disk check -(chkdsk c: /R chkdsk /p fixboot c: bootrec.exe /fixmbr) in the Command Prompt. But each time I restart my computer, Startup Repair still pops up and I cannot login. I don't own a Windows Vista CD to try and recover my hard drive.

All these symptoms can be from ram stick fault, graphic card or graphic section of the mother board or a failing hard drive
you will probably have to have it properly diagnosed by a computer repair shop to find out exactly the failing component

SOURCE: vista goes blue and restart after unnistalling intel turbo memory

I'm afraid that the only way is to reinstal Vista. If you recive a message that says that Vista arent capeble to repait it self ther is no other way. I Guess that the instalation of the driver for Intel Turbo Memory messed up Vista pretty good and uninstal it dosent help. You will always have bad file system on Vista. Better then to star from the begining with a fresh reinstal.

Good luck

SOURCE: Can't factory restore dell inspiron 531 (windows xp).

You might want to try going into setup and setting your boot drive options to DVD drive as your 1st, HD as 2nd and Floppy as 3rd. Put your windows disk in the DVD before boot and run the program from DVD.

T61 won't go past the Microsoft loading screen

Press F8 during boot, and load Safe Mode. A program may be preventing a proper startup.

Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig > Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running.

This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when you initiate.

File: \Windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe. status: 0xc0000098 windows failed to load and no recovery disk

Running the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
If Startup Repair is unable to get your system running again, and if neither System Restore nor Windows Complete PC Restore has returned your computer to a condition of reliable health, consider the possibility that you have failing memory. To test this hypothesis, click Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool in the Startup Recovery Options menu. The Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool will ask whether you want to restart now and check for problems (the recommended option) or check instead on your next startup. Because you're having trouble getting to that next startup, you presumably want the first option. For more information on this you can refer the link below.

Make system repairs from the Windows Recovery Environment
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Make-system-repairs-from-the-Windows-Recovery-Environment-from-Windows-Vista-Inside-Out

Run check disk command from Windows Recovery environment to fix bad sector on your hard drive
a) Insert the Vista DVD, and boot from the DVD.
b) As you want to boot the computer from the Windows Vista DVD, you need to press a key, on your keyboard when you see the prompt. You should now see a black screen with a white status bar at the bottom stating Windows is loading files.... After a while, the status bar will turn completely white and you will see a screen stating that Windows is loading. The Windows Setup environment will continue to load and when finished you will be presented with a screen that prompts you for information about your location and language.
c) At this screen you should configure the Language to install, Time and currency format, and Keyboard or input method options so that they are set correctly. When done, press the Next button. You will now be at the main Windows Vista setup screen where you would normally install Vista on to a computer.
d) As we want to repair the computer, you should click on the Repair your computer option. This will bring you to a new screen where the repair process will look for all Windows Vista installations on your computer. When done you will be presented with the System Recovery Options dialog box
e) Select the Vista installation you would like to repair
f) From the system recovery options, choose command prompt and enter the command chkdsk /r.
For both the above steps you can refer the link mentioned below.

This sounds like the dreaded Windows Vista Black Screen of Death (KSOD). you might have a bad hard drive, but even more likely some software or a driver is causing a problem and caused Vista to get stuck. The repair will not work. You might be able to run a complete repair from the Windows Vista CD, if you have one. If you are not too experienced, take it to a reputable computer service center. If you are at all technical and have time, google your problem and you will see thousands of similar users with same problems.

This is one reason Microsoft released Windows 7 so soon.
