Kodak digital camera z990 lens obstructed remove lens cap

It seems that many people think that sending a camera back to the manufacturer is helpful. Most of us want help to fix it ourselves. If it is under warranty most know enough to send it back. If it is out of warranty the repair cost for most problems is more then it cost to replace it.

Starting the camera

It looks like there might be a gear or motor not working properly inside the mechanism that moves the lens in and out.
If the camera is less than a year old, still under manufacturers warranty. Contact the manufacturer help line or support to find you an authorized service center.

My lens is stuck and camera reads "lens

I'm pretty sure you will find that Canon hasn't turned their back on anything. If your camera is in warranty and it stops working...they will repair it for free. If your camera is out of warranty they will fix it for a fee. If you drop or otherwise damage your camera, they will fix it if it is possible to do, for a fee.I don't know of any manufacturer that will repair a camera that was physically damaged by the user for free.

I have a Nikon D90 with 18-105 mm lens. Lately, the onboard flash has not been firing even when I try to enforce it by having the flash popped up. It will only fire if I do one of the following: 1)...

Sounds like a dodgy electrical contact, possibly between the lens mount and the camera body. The lens ought to still be in warranty, but that would depend on what warranty the manufacturer or seller offer in your part of the world (in the UK, the seller is responsible for the first year). Try to find the warranty documentation. To get warranty coverage, you will almost certainly have to have the dated receipt.

Focus ring will not move below 5 feet. Can't focus on things closer than that - AF or MF.

There's nothing you can do yourself to fix it, the lens should focus down to 0.4m (15").

The lens comes with an automatic one year manufacturer's warranty, which extends by another three years if you registered the warranty so I suggest that you return the lens to Sigma for repair.

Note that any evidence of misuse or unauthorised repair attempts automatically invalidate the warranty.

EX-S500 lens stuck closed.

If you camera is in warranty then I recommend you contact the manufacturer for an RMA so that you may return it for repair.
All digital cameras selling for under $500 have a failure/problem rate higher than what most of us consider acceptable. If you are outside the manufacturers warranty but you have a retailers extended warranty then contact them. (I believe that extended warranties rarely provide a good return on investment. However, for digital cameras my experience shows a better investment because of the rate of failures with prolonged ownership...I have no vested interest in extended warranties.)
If you do not get satisfaction from the manufacturer or retailer; then regrettably you have few reasonable choices. With your next camera you may decide to include some thoughts herein during your purchase.

Sony cyber-shot

Hey kylapaige,
Most manufacturers’ warranties on digital cameras cover the camera for 1 year, and all the manufacturer usually requires is proof of purchase. If you have lost your receipt most retailers can provide you with a copy of it. This being said I will say that most manufacturers’ warranties do not cover damage caused by and accident. I have included a link to the manufacturer where you can view the manufacturers warranty terms and conditions, and there is a PDF download of your camera manual in case you need it. I hope this helps!

Lens stay out

Hey flakey61,
One thing you can try is removing the batteries, and according to the manufacturer if you leave them out for three days or more and then reinsert fully charged batteries the camera should reset to the default settings and this might resolve your problem. If that doesn't help this camera is most likely still covered under manufacturer warranty, and you could call the manufacturer and set up service on the camera. You can also bring it to a Geek Squad® precinct in a Best Buy™ store and they can send it out under manufacturers warranty to get serviced. I hope this helps!

Canon 400d DSLR error 99

Hey cookie8,
According to the manufacturer you should try cleaning the lens contacts, which I usually use a rubber eraser to do this. If this doesn't work try removing the battery, and if it's not charged charge it then reinsert the battery. If neither of these options work I would have the lens looked at by an authorized service technician, and of course if there is something wrong with the lens and if it's new you might be able to exchange it for a new one thru the retailer you purchased it from and if not it should be covered under the manufacturers warranty. I hope this helps!
