I found on mine that the dimmer and a few other buttons on the front would not work so i took it apart and found a capacitor on the very front panel was corroded and one of teh contacts barely hanging on. It is a 5.5V .1f capacitor. I am going to replace it and see if it takes care of the protect problem.

Check if speaker positive and negative terminals are not connected to each other creating short circuit, PROTECT MODE occurs when speaker wires touch each other.

When i switch on my samsung HT-Z110 the word hello appears then protect thenit turned off!

Audio receivers have an output protection circuit called "protect mode", this is to protect the receiver from short circuit failures. The speakers and speaker wires are what I inspect thoroughly first, look for bare speaker wires,or bare wires that are touching each other at that point, check speaker wires at the back of the receiver for sloppy connections, etc. If all looks good then try disconnecting all the speakers at the receiver, then turn power on to see if it goes into "protect mode", if it does the the receiver probably has an internal short and will need to be sent in for service,if it doesn't go into "protect mode" then connect one speaker at a time back into the receiver until it does go into "protect mode" then which ever speaker you connected last is the speaker that is shorted(blown) and then you know that speaker is the problem and it will need to be replaced or repaired. Good luck !

Why does my amp stay in protect mode?

The most common reason an amplifier goes into or remains in protect mode is shorted output transistors. To eliminate other possible reasons for it to go into protect, read the following page.

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!

Stuck in protect mode

Speakers shorted out, blew a fuse. Replace the unit or (cross your fingers and) open up the box and find the blown fuse.
