Black line when using feeder

HP Office Jet J6480 All of a sudden there is a black line running down the center of the page. But only when faxed or copies using feeder. Doesn't happen when printing or using the flatbed. How do I get in there to clean?

    Hi:
On this model when you use the document feeder it does not go to the main contact glass. It basically has two scanners: the flatbed and the fax/scan.
i need to get into the fax scanner somehow.

    Thanks for trying!

    OK I get it now.

Well not sure what to think.
I tried to jsut use a tissue.
    Ran through a blank page.
The print out still had the blank line.
But dig this, it had something stuck to it that looked like a catepillar.
It some kind of little brush.

Seems like the whole unit is suddenly melting down!

    Thanks.

Not familiar with this model in particular, but if you lift the document feeder, as if to place an original on the glass, there is either a narrow filter glass on the left of the main contact glass, or in many cases it is attached (clipped on) and lifts up with the document feeder cover. Clean this glass. If it is clipped on to the cover, remove it, and clean both sides. I hope this helps.

Please rate solution :)

Ok, so you have to actually lift the Feed section of the Document feeder to access the Scanner glass I was talking about. There are not 2 scanners, and as I said I'm not familiar with this model exactly, but they are all similar in function.. Clean the narrow glass on the left side...look in your user guide on page 134 if you are still not clear. Get the guide here, if you need even MORE help. I can't provide any more info than this.

My HP OfficeJet J6480 All-in-One is leaving black vertical streaks on each side of the page when using the document feeder. Does not leave streaks when using the flatbed scanner. How do I correct

Hi

Just remove the ink cartridge. Clean the print head by a soft cloth with rubbing alcohol to remove some sticky or ink residue. Then rub the printhead into a plain paper until ink flows. Then run the print nozzle for 2 times.

I hope it helps you. Regards

I have an HP J6480 printer, Fax copier, when I fax or copy a black line is down the center of the sheet. I replaced the toner. How do I fix it?

There is something stuck on the scanner glass. To test for this problem try making a copy by laying your original on the glass and making your copy, not running it through the feeder. If it copies fine from the glass it is definately something in the feeder/scanner glass. Just clean it with a soft cloth and some glass cleaner. You should be lookig for a thin strip of glass to the left of the large glass. Or you might have to open up the feeder unit and find it there.
