There are no beeps. I pulled the hdd and was able to connect to it through my desktop via usb adapter. no problems that I can see. Scanned for malware and it was clean so problem must b hardware, right?

had this Aspire 1800 mint condition. Recently out of blue only popped Acer screen couple times other then that dark. it goes on and off but boots on Acer screen, but I can't get anything. I have boot up disks and if could get to bios would just reformat the dang thing (nothing major on it). I'm hoping easy fix haven't listened to beeps but will do that when I get home. I just can't see taking it to BB and having them charge me 50 dollars for something I could have fixed on my own. I dont think its dead yet, just hard to do with black screen. I dont use my laptop monitor i have it connected to plasma monitor, has no signal on that and doesnt seem to boot through. Help :D Vicki

Exact same problem Here. No chirps, chortles or nothing. Just a 'fixed' hard drive light, that eventually turns off (~20 secs). No ability to switch over to an auxiliary Monitor with key combo. The front Multimedia LCD ('bout the size of a digital wristwatch window) Proceeds with the #8 down the 4 positions and stops at the last one (don't really recall if I ever notices that '8' symbol before). Before it went completely bad, would every once in a while boot up. Ran chkdsk's back then and probably a few more checks and didn't notices any errors. Next time booted up - Gone, No more chances. Over a year ago now.

Yeah u r hanged in very critical problem...only solution is to test ext. mon using SPECIAL FUNCTION KEYS on your laptop keypad... one one key there would be a symbol like "a rectangular box between two bars"... using it you can shif your display of laptop to external mon also... try this...other wise you will have to take it to service center... rate this solution if it is really helpful to you

Honestly, try flashing the bios. These things have happened to me before. I had no lcd, then flashed and it worked, then the power button wouldnt turn on, and a flash worked. Then the hard drive failed <_<

Tell me when you first boot up do you hear a prepost beep and if so is it 1 beep or 2 if it is 2 then ther is a hardware problem if the is no beep then it may be 1 of many things,if it is 1 beep then all is well with your PC and the problem will be else where we have to work on the problem befor we can fix it,So please let me know about those beeps !!!!!

  • acer1966 Apr 24, 2009

ok you best bet now ,befor you go and spend money you may want to try one more thing try to hook it up to a different monitor if that does not work then you may be looking at a vedio card problem thank god they are not too expencif, the problem we face is that your beeps tell you what is wrong with it or is not, it is like a computer code if you want to try a different monitor that would be great but in the mean time i will do some researc in my manual and try and get what no beep means then i will post the new resalts for you ,we will get this yet just hang tight.

    Beep Code:
    Description of
    Problem:

    No Beeps
Short, No power, Bad CPU/MB, Loose Peripherals

    One Beep
Everything is normal and Computer POSTed fine

    Two Beeps
    POST/CMOS Error

One Long Beep, One Short Beep
    Motherboard Problem

One Long Beep, Two Short Beeps
    Video Problem

One Long Beep, Three Short Beeps
    Video Problem

    Three Long Beeps
    Keyboard Error

    Repeated Long Beeps
    Memory Error

    Continuous Hi-Lo Beeps
    CPU Overheating

So as you can see, if your computer doesn't start up and starts
beeping away like a mime you can start the process of figuring out what is wrong
by stopping for a second and listening. From a single beep which tells you
everything is okay, to three long beeps which indicate a keyboard error to the
siren like Hi-Lo beeps that tell you the CPU is overheating - listening to your
    computer is good!

As you become more and more experienced with computers, friends
and family will naturally start to bring sick computers to your door to fix.
When that happens, or when your own machine suddenly stops working, try
listening to it first and see if it tells you what's wrong. If you are able to
diagnose the problem just by listening to it, you will surely impress all your
    computer friends!

Maybe from the time you copied your files you created a shortcut. That is why it has a short cut arrows.
Just go to the root directory of your files. Then copy it. Then paste it into your external HDD.

My acer model#zg5 is less than a year old. I turn on the computer, the power light goes on, i can hear the processor starting, but the screen is blank. why is this? When i press the caps lock button, there...

I am sure that you are aware that your notebook has a one year warranty from Acer. Although there are a few things you could try it would be inadvisable to do anything until you contacted Acer. Any attempts by you to fix this before that may cause more problems and void your warranty.
If however your warranty is out then please repost and we will gladly help.

Also you can hear someting but it's not the processor. The processor does not make any noise. What you are most likely hearing is the hard drive spinning up. This is a good thing though.

hi there !

-if you switch the computer on and it boots up and you hear the windows sound, this could be a possible video problem or motherboard problem
-run the diags on the LCD, while the computer is off, press and hold "D" then press power button at the same time, if you see the colors red blue green without any problems then it is a motherboard or video card problem
-another method to run the test is while the computer is off; preess and hold Fn then press power button, let the test run; when you see the question were colour bars displayed, press N, if you see the colors red blue and green without any problem then it is a motherboard problem or video card; otherwise it is an LCD problem
-to toggle display on the external monitor press Fn then F8

cheers !

LCD Screen is normal on one half and blank on the other

Most likely. You can check the cable connection to the motherboard and check the cabel where it goes thru the hinge assy for wear, but what you describe is indicative of a hardware failure of the LCD

Also connect an external monitor, see if it shows full screen, if it does, and reseating the cable has no effect, check Ebay for a replacement LCD

your laotop problem most from display unit (ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000), you need consider
1) first you need to make sure the EXT VGA diaplsy is ok or not, if both display are same problem, please do next
2) if the display card is separat to motherboard you need check the card connection with the motherboard, there is pair plug/socket
clean it and set back. still bad, need to change one
3) if the display card is on board chips you cant change it, you have to find a special technician to do BGA repair
4) if EXT VGA display normal you need check LCD cable connection and LCD panel, this step please keep in touch me

Can you connect a acer aspire one to the tv via hdmi

You cannot connect your acer aspire one via HDMI as its not having HDMI port. But you can connect via VGA cable and most of the TV supporting HDMI will also definitely support VGA input.
