I did own this machine and as I recall there were two diffrent video cards sold with it. One was an ATI Pro 128 8MB AGP and one was a 4MB ATI 3D Rage integrated.
If you could determine which of those you have, it would be easier, as there is just a generic video driver that will work. What is the serial number of the machine?

You can add hard drive if your system doesnt have enough space for the new programs. If the new programs installs well but is running slow or not starting, then you will have to upgrade your RAM and for better performance, fix one graphics card suitable for *********** board. If you can spend more, Upgrade *********** board and processor.
Go to Gateway Support website and type your serial number. All drivers for this model will be listed. http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp?cmpid=topnav
If you are comfortable removing the the cover and going inside the unit you can remove the dvd player or just lift it out partially to access the front of the dvd player. It has a eject button on the buttom right hand corner , its a dvd player-recorder that can be hooked up to PC, same power connector but you have to remove that adapter connector for the IDE cable on the PC. You need some sort of dvd player software on your PC to run it, there some free ones out there or trial versions. Works quite well even on a older PC (900Mhz Pentium 3,128 MB RAM). Hope this helps you out, good luck. Don't forget to unplug the unit before going in.
I received a message from someone else who wants to know the make and model of the mother board to my P II Machine. If he cannot help me solve the problem, I shall revert to you.

There are many causes one a slow processor speed ( even by pentium III 933mhz stuttered when i was playing divx) two needing to update the dvd software . Third the lense being dirty spay compressed air into the drive.
What is the serial number of the machine?
If you have that then you can check this site:

Unfortunately that machine is pretty old, they may not even prove drivers for it anymore.
