Yes there is a series of gears that turn the one way bearing on the crank. The starter system is easy to remove and repair.

Car sorn but I try to start battery ok but no movement from starter motor

First the cheapest things first, like the wiring look for frayed wires, loose nuts on the started, started jamb caused from loose starter, it could be jammed in the flywheel. Try to remove started bolts and pull started back and reset it. if it is loose ti may have lost shims they use to adjust it. or a bad starter.Good Luck.

Attempted to jump start my 2001 3.5 rl acura and

10gage cables?
does engine turn by hand? if not,its seized.
the starter can pull 500 amps. (if cold) its called a series wound motor.
and the harder the engine turns, the more amps and HP from this
electric motor. id turn it by hand, if you can turn the engine crank
by hand than try real jumper cable (they cost more) and if they
fail the starter is jammed, or is shorted.
starters can be dead, shorted, open, weak, or jammed.
if the engine spins, take the starter to any autostore, they test it for free.

1993 Landcruiser Toyota VX Ltd loud clunk when trying to start

I would pull out the starter and see what I could find, either the starter or the fly wheel. If you remove the starter you can look at the fly wheel and the starter. Good luck

Starter chattering away, will not crank engine.

One last test before pulling the starter off to test it. Do a voltage drop test on your positive cable. If you don't know how, go to youtube and watch videos. Just remember, this test only works when current is being passed through a wire or cable, so you will need a helper to hold key in start. This test will tell you if you are losing voltage anywhere between the positive battery post and the cable connection on the starter. If you are getting no loss of voltage at the starter, then it is time to pull the starter off. You can also test the ground cable for any fault.

Recoil will not retract

its one of 2 problems. a: you have jammed it when you pulled on it or b: the spring has broken. simply take a spanner and undo the pull starter housing 1-2 turns and tap the chainsaw on the ground while flicking the cable tight and loose. and if that doesnt work try a flat bladed screw driver to see if theres tension inside the housing by trying to turn it back towards recoiling.. if it doesnt at least un jam you may have a broken spring. which means a trip to the tools shop to see if you can get them to replace it. or if your courageous take the whole housing off and see if its broken or not (watch out in case your pull starter features a rather nasty long flat piece of wound up spring steel that likes to come out of there at a pace fast enough to take an unwary eye out)

The pull string will not pull out to start the

Remove the starter mechanism from the saw and try to turn the flywheel--it should turn freely except when the piston is rising against compression. If ok, pull the starter cord and watch for twisted cord or a damaged/split spool. Try to turn the spool CW by hand to see if it is bound up by something. Was the starter cord just replaced? If so, maybe the return spring was over-wound and can't be turned further. Hope this helps!

Engine is jammed. pull cord won't give. briggs and straton gas generator 5500 watts No product category listed.

Before you start ordering parts, take out the spark plug and try to pull the cord; If it comes out and turns the engine the cylinder was full of some type of fluid that can't compress(probably came flying out of plug hole). If it still won't budge then take the shroud(piece that has starter on it) off, usally two bolts at both ends, and try to pull the cord now that it is off the engine. If it spins, check and see if you can turn the engine by hand. If the cord comes out and in like it should then you need to take it to someone who can work on it to fix the engine, if it does not work then you know that You need a new starter.

Focus c-max non starter

if the starter is not turning the engine, then it is either a weak or jammed starter, or a siezed engine.....tap the starter with a hammer ( lightly )...while someone tries to start the engine...if nothing happens, then its the engine.......try a spanner on the pully of the flywheel, and turn manualy by hand, if it wont turn, then the engine has siezed

Battery good, wont turn over, just a click when try to start

it is most likley starter relay or starter.with vehicle in park and e-brake on have someone tap on the starter with hammer while your trying to start.if starter starts to crank then you know the starter is on the way out.if starter does not crank it may already be shot.srarter relay is on fire wall check power + ground.
