SOURCE: remove front panel of maytag MDG7400Aww gas dryer

You have to remove the front panel first to access the clip that holds the front of the top down. Instructions:

crosstip medium screwdriver
1/4 inch socket
5/15 inch socket

  1. UNPLUG DRYER
  2. TURN OFF GAS
  3. Disassemble by taking apart the FRONT of the dryer:

    a. Remove the door and opposite side door plugs (crosstip screws)

    b. Remove the front panel - this exposes sheet metal bolts (5/16 inch) some with crosstip on left and right of unit. Set panel aside (right side) WITHOUT unplugging wires

    c. Unscrew all the exposed bolts.

    d. Top bolts left and right secure the unpainted metal hooks which secures the top of dryer. Unscrew these bolts and wiggle the metal retainer hooks off. Lift top and support to create 6 inch gap in the front (top unit hinges in back and has electrical connections - do NOT disconnect wires)

    e. Release belt from pulley by reaching left and under drum (this is out of sight)

    f. gently lift out drum and belt and set aside
  4. This has exposed the interior.

SOURCE: Dryer not heating as it should. Gets warm, but takes several cycles to dry clothes

Could be 2 things... either your heat source is out of repair or your vent is blocked. Since you say it only gets warm I'll assume the problem is with the gas coils inside the unit. These parts are replaceable

SOURCE: How to replace heating element Maytag Performa

Your model number indicates a gas dryer. It does not have a heating element. It has a glowbar igniter,a flame sensor and a gas valve. Either the glowbar igniter is bad or the flame sensor or the gas valve coils or the thermal fuse.

There is a spring in this diagram. Part 6. It hooks to the idler. It's the only spring I can find on the diagrams. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getSubComp.pd?modelNumber=PYG2300AWW&productCategoryId=0151200&brandId=3048 &modelName=DRYER&diagramPageId=00006&componentDescription=MOTOR%20&%20DRIVE&documentId=M0512356&blt=06

The screws won't stay in the hinges on my Maytag dryer door, model #PYG2300AWW. It's like the holes in the cabinet are too big for the screws. Is there something else missing that they should be...

Hi ddyreson...
You are missing a sheet metal clip.
It will clip on the sheet metal with the large hole in it, to convert it from a large hole to a hole that you need to fit the screw...
Look around where you disassembled the dryer, it is somewhere in the area or in the dryer...
You can get replacement metal clips at HomeDepot,Loews,Ace Hardware, etc.

Our dryer is turning but no heat what is the first to go on dryers model#pyg2300aww thanks

first, check and see if the ignitor glows,if not it probably is burned out, then if it glows, but wont start check the flame sensor eye for dirt so it cant sense the flame,if this isnt the problem, then check the gas valve coils on the gas valve, they get weak and cant keep the valve open to supply gas to the dryer

Maytag gas dryer would run half cycle until it would shut down. now it struggles to start and then stops. pyg2300aww model.

Good day,
Every indication the motor is failing. Not uncommon.
Could be a bearing dragging badly, or idler assembly bearings, doing the same thing, but
A complete tear down of the dryer would need to be done to verify the problem.
Once again, figure the motor as the problem.

Thank you for using FixYa

clean your dryer vent going from the back of the dryer to outside also run a lint brush down where you put the lint screen in if this does not help replace your coils
