This is a possible solution as I had the same problem on a PSC 1510. You will need to rest the printer on its fron edge after closing the paper tray. With the bottom of the printer facing you you should see a small removable panel on the left hand side - it has one Torx screw in the upper left corner. Undo that screw and the panel can be removed - be careful not to dislodge the felt ink pad. Once the panel has been removed you will see a black plastic lever which pivots in a socket with one long arm extending to the right and a shorter arm extending down. Remove this arm and then reinstall it making sure that the small peg on the shorter arm sits in the long vertical slot of the black plastic slide inside the printer. Once you have done this the long arm should be close to horizontal. Replace the removable panel - making sure the felt ink pad is in place - and the problem should be solved.

I hope this helps.

While printing, paper jams. the sheet pulls through initially, but then while printing, the paper scrunches up and the cartridge jams.

It is likely that there is a small piece of torn paper inside that is causing the paper to bunch up. Try a can of compressed air to clean out the interior and trace through the route the paper takes. Look for anything the paper could get stuck on.

Good Luck!

Doesn't feed the paper in evenly and so it scrunches up to the right and goes crooked, and then jams.

mine did that and I had to clean the feeder wheels to get it to grab the paper.. I use rubbing alcohol to get the grime off...

Paper Jam at exit

This happened with an old HP Laserjet 1100A of mine.
I had apparently dropped a screw in the paper-out slot and it was jamming the paper on just one spot.

As you know, the entire sheet is connected, so It is most likely a similar situation in which a previous jam has left a small wad of paper under one of the rollers, and this is preventing the paper from exiting the slot.
Best bet, print something and see where the paper is scrunching up. This is most likely the roller that has the paper stuck under it. Remove the toner block and blast some compressed air into the spot the jam is most likely originating and see if anything else flys out.
Also, if that does not work, you might try manually rotating the rollers backwards, which will often eject the lodged paper chunk.
Note- Please be careful inside the printer! Do not touch the bright green drum, or anything that dosen't look like it is rubber and rolls paper around!
It is very easy to mess things up in there ;)
