Sounds like motor bearings or drum bearings are froze up and is not turning the belt.

Yes, you will have to remove the agitator and remove clips from bottom of drum. Should be able to access this through the back of dryer.

GE DPXH46GA6CC gas dryer makes large humming noise in heat cycles and burning smell

Two things are likely going on here,1- something is dragging down your motor check for a twist in the belt, idler pulley bad, belt installed wrong or wrong belt. Also check your front drum felt and glides if the felt is bunched up that will drag down the motor. Now the smell you probably have some felt or lint in the burner clean it carefully you do not want to damage your igniter.

GE dryer model DDE8200GALAD was working fine. After removing a load and trying to dry another, after inserting the load and shutting the door when you turn the timer to start it before pushing the start...

If you hear the motor humming and not starting at all it most likely has a severe friction problem with the drum or motor. It could possibly have some type of garment jamming the blower wheel preventing the motor from starting too.

Open the dryer door and manually rotate the dryer drum counter clockwise (CCW). It should take very little effort to rotate the drum. If it's hard to rotate that could explain why the motor hums instead of starting up. If it turns freely, shut the door and see if will start. If it still hums and not start it may have bad motor or a low voltage supply to the motor.

Dryer heat comes on with start switch hold on, but will not run the drum.

so you hear the motor spinning (the hum of a motor), then most likely the belt has broker or the tensioner pully has broken/fallen off..

Was it making any funny noises before it failed. Thumps, squels, grinding...?

Usually driers have very little bottom and you can see the motor, tensioner and belt by turning it on its side. or pull of the bottom. Be sure to unplug it and if it is gas, turn off the gas. if gas be really careful with the hose... IF YOU ARE A LITTLE UNSURE and it is gas, just call a repair person. Electricity burns and sparks, gas explodes!

Peace,

GE Profile gas dryer, DPXB515, no heat and no drum spin

the humimg you hear is from the motor, check the blower wheel that is below the lint filter,if a sock or something gets sucked into the blower the motor can't spin, check the belt,if it is jamed the motor can't spin,if these things check good you have a bad motor

Dryer just sits and hums

if you push the start and it just humms it is a bad dryer motor to weak to kick on,to confirm this have sombody hold the dryer door button in and turn the drum when you push the start button,if it jump starts you know it's a bad motor-mike

Dryer will not start

I had the same problem and this is how I fixed it ,,, i did a comfortor ,very heavy when wet .....next day i tried to do a new load ...when I turned start button all i got was a hum... I removed screws just inside door at top of lip this releases top of dryer,,,, exposing drum i rotated drum clockwise to check condition of belt ....looked good ....mine is 7 yrs old ...to soon to be motor problem ....so while turning drum i held start button on and finally motor kicked in and this solved my problem...you might be able to accomplish this without taking of panel ..though you wont be able to see belt ....by turning the drum from inside dryer while someone else turns on start button

Dryer problem

you need to either clean or replace the drive motor motors have two windings start and run windings both windings kick in on start up then the centrifugal switch kicks the start windings out and the run windings take over if nothing is jamming the tub go to the motor sme times getting the lint out of the switches and motor will fix it if not replace it
