    Did not get to post my complete question;.so: now here it is:
    Disconnect Supervision fails when call is answered by voice mail. After far end disconnect, the line is held open & reorder tone gets recorded to voice mail. This malfunction prematurely fills up voice mail memory with CO squawking tone that eventually times-out.. Is there a line setting I have missed? Or, is the unit malfunctioning?

    Not the problem I described. Office temperature & base unit power supply are not at issue. Disconnect failure on a local loop-start line after the far-end caller goes on-hook is.

Hi folks, used 2 of the phones for several years now, great phone with a character. The fix with the handset power units is absolutely working and should be tested before one gives up.
Also, I found out that cold temperature does influence or even trigger such outages of the base. We had two and both had a problem with temperatures of below 35-38 degrees. Sounds strange but we use it in a non heated office in the south, but when it really gets cold, the base can fail. Take a heater and
keep it warm. 15min later it works again!
If that and the power supply exchange does not work look deeper for a solution!

Answer machine doesn't disconnect upon caller hang up

What phone? what answering machine? what phone system?
You have not provided any details.
If you mean Voice Mail on a Business Phone system then Supervision Disconnect needs to be programmed, call a vendor/tech in.

When i press busy button on T7316 phone it says set in use

Did you mean "Line" in use?

Caller calling Voice Mail probably tied it up.

Tech needs to program Supervision Disconnect for the line/s and Carrier must do the same so they talk to each other.
So when callers hangs up a disconnect signal tells the system to hang up.
90 percent of the time the tech had it programmed but the carrier did not.

On our 3 line Nortel T7208 it is showing 2 of the lines are in use, they are not, how do we clear these?

Reboot phone system or pull the jumpers off and re punch down to KSU.
Lines need to be programmed a Supervision Disconnect = YES both on phone system and the carrier, call a tech in to do this/check and also put in a repair ticket with the carrier to do same.
Supervision Disconnect monitors the lines to when you hang up it knows to release the line. Muck like back in the day you could hangup on that crank caller, pick up the phone a aminute later and he was still there.

Tom , this is a hardware problem, you need to open device and disconnect and connect a keypad and touch screen on board again it will solve problem, if problem persist show some official repairer, don't try otherthings without supervision of expert.Best of Luck. for the open device search on you tube to see how to dissambley and resambley the device.if my answer was helpful please rate it.

Hi Gooday! Im a Panasonic pabx technician...i had a problem with our current project pabx system the CO card or trunkCard always hung and all line always busy...whst is the posible problem of my...

Two possibilities. The C.O. is not sending a disconnect or the timing needs to be set. It's a C.O. trunk time you adjust first and if that doesn't work, call the telco. We have hardware to simulate disconnect supervision if the phone company (or PBX extension like a Panasonic) can't provide it. We have to use them on elevator extensions.

We have a Nortel Networks T24 phone with multiple lines on it and 2 of them are showing like it's in use but no one are using them. I will like to know if there's a way to cancel them.

This will usually happen if you either

1) Have not set disconnect supervision
2) Have telephone company lines that do not support disconnect supervision
3) Both

The easiest quick fix is to reboot the PBX.

The long term fix is to set disconnect supervision on the PBX for all of the lines and make sure that the lines form the phone company are set to provide disconnect supervision.

The exact way to set it up on the PBX varies by PBX.

We used to have a guy come in whenever we had phone problems but he retired. One of my co-workers somehow tried to transfer a person to one of our other locations but in the process have put lines 1 and 5...

When you transfer a call from the outside to an outside place, it will use two external lines for the duration of the call. Sounds like there the PBX is not configured for "disconnect supervision," (DS) meaning that it can't detect when the call finished on either side, so it holds those lines in use. Even if you set DS up on the PBX, the telephone company be sure the lines are programmed for COD (clear on disconnect).

If you do external transfers, you need to set up disconnect supervision on the PBX and COD from the telephone company.

This will probably involve the services of a professional, unless you are comfortable navigating the
internal menus of the PBX.

You can clear the lines by disconnecting the amphenol connector for the outside lines for a few seconds and reconnecting it (which will disconnect all outbound calls) or by rebooting the PBX.

2 lines in use with no-one on them

This can happen if you transfer a call from outside to another outside line, or if somone has their phone set to forward to an outside line (like a cell phone)

Also, if you do not have "Disconnect Supervision" on your trunks and "Clear on Disconnect" (COD) set by the phone company, this can happen.

This sort of fix is usually done by a telephone professional, but you can do it if you specify the model number of the PBX that you have.

To clear the lines, you either need to reboot the PBX or temporarily disconnect the lines from the PBX.

I changed bios password on 4005

i'll try make it simple..disconnect all input mains power sources.."just remove or pick open the cmos battery (+3v) from the main/mother board and resit/fit it again carefully"..
configure bios n exit n restart..hope it'll work..
always better to hv professional supervision, contact ur system admin/vendor....

Check and make sure that the disconnect clear time of ur Norstar is 800ms.
