See the details.and fix it. God bless you

Check to see that the power cable is properly connected to the computer and the outlet. You should also check to be sure that any power strips are on and working. Try starting your computer from several electrical outlets.

  • 2 Press the "Caps Lock" button on the keyboard and see whether the green light comes on. If the light comes on, but your Mac won't start, the computer might be asleep and may need to have the power management unit (PMU) reset or serviced. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to see whether the computer will turn off or wake up.

Insert the the Mac OS X CD and hold the "C" key while powering on your computer to boot from the disc and not the computer's internal drive. Run Disc Utility from the CD to diagnose and attempt to repair some hardware problems. You can also erase the hard disc and reinstall OS X with this method, although you won't have a chance to back up your data.

Reset the power management unit by disconnecting the power cord from the back of your computer. Wait 2 minutes before reconnecting the cord and turning on your computer. Laptops and older computers have different procedures for resetting the PMU, which you can get from Apple's website (see Resources below).

Drain the logic board's battery on your Mac. Disconnect the battery (for a laptop) and the power adapter, then press the power switch and let the computer sit for about 25 minutes before reconnecting and booting it. This step forces the computer to reset its logic board and all other components that use the backup electrical charge.

Open your computer and remove any RAM upgrades that you've installed. See whether the computer starts up without the extra memory. Incompatible or incorrectly installed memory can make your computer unresponsive.

SOURCE: Apple iMac 17 Model A1058 won't turn on

Re the light turning on for about 3 secs.
Does the computer make a 'start up' chime or any other tones?
If not, this could be for a variety or reasons.
Firstly you need to verify that the power supply is working. Remove all connections from the computer including the keyboard and mouse. Try to start up again. If the computer still fails to start up, you will need to gain access to the computers internals.
Lay the computer face down on a soft cloth to protect the screen. Undo the 3 silver screws on the lower edge of the computer. (one at each end and one central. These are captive screws.)
Lift the rear cover away from the main body of the computer.
On the Logic Board there are 4 diagnostic LEDs indicated by a yellow arrow on the board. To the left of these LEDs there is a small button. This allows you to power on the computer with the rear cover removed. Connect the power lead. LED1 should be 'ON'. If it is 'OFF' then you need to replace the power supply.
Turn the computer on by using the internal power button.(LEDs 2&3 should now be 'ON'. If LED2 only comes on momentarilty then replace the power supply).
Does the computer start up normally after pressing the internal power button?
    - Yes: Press and hold the power button until the computer powers off.
    • Unplug the power cord from the iMac, and reinstall the back cover.
    • Return the computer to the upright position.
    • Plug the computer back in, and press the power button to turn on the computer.
    • Make sure the computer is starting up properly. If the computer will ONLY start up
from the internal power but will not power on from the power button on the back
cover, the power button on the back cover may be faulty.
    - No: Reset the SMU.
    • Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
    • Wait 10 seconds.
    • Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button
on the back of the computer.
    • Let go of the power button.
    • Press the power button once more to start up your iMac G5.
If the computer starts up normally then shut down and replace the rear cover.
If you feel uncomfortable about working on the computer, take it to a reputable repairer.
    Hope this helps.

My imac g5 wont turn on at all! what can i do?

First, you should make sure you you have power to the iMac. Next if you checked you don't have power the iMac and you do, you could bring it to an Apple Store near you so they can diagnose it. Note, " I pretty sure they could diagnose it." Then if they know what the problem is, you could buy the parts needed from sites that have them and replace the faulty parts. You might be able to find how to replace the parts on www.iFixit.com. If this isn't what you are looking for you should probably clarify your qustion because the question has tons of possibilities. Hopefully this can help!!!!
Note: The Apple Store people might be able to fix the iMac for a price.

I turn on my imac and it makes the boot sound but the screen doesnt turn on what should i do?

Attach an external monitor to the port on the rear of the iMac (requires a mini-VGA to VGA adapter). If the external monitor shows image, then you have a bad inverter or LCD panel, or a disconnected display cable. If the external monitor shows no image, then it is something else, and whatever it is will probably require a logic board replacement, which is not cost-effective in a machine this old (unless you have an unusual source of used parts).
