You will have to take the machine apart somewhat, or at least to the point of being able to disconnect and remove the usb port. Here's a link to the D600 service manual download. It will guide you through the breakdown process.

You are either missing the driver for usb or the problems is a hardware issue. Go to my device manger on your computer and update or reinsatall the driver. Check fo any drivers confilcts. If that does not solve the problem check if usb is lose. Possibly it became lose form mother board. You may need to solder it back.

A shot in the dark here, but try this: Click Start>Run, type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Click the plus sign beside "Universal Serial Bus Controllers." Right click each listing that appears underneath "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and click Uninstall. Click OK on the confirmation dialogs. After you get done uninstalling all of them, restart your computer and Windows should reinstall them. After it is done, try that USB port again.
