How to enable & disable USB ports easily

if you need to disable USB devices from working accessing your system or prevent devices from working on usb ports (USB port blocking) create the following Registry file.

open note pad and copy/paste the following 2 lines

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor]

"Start"=dword:00000004

save the file name as

disableUSB.reg

when you double click the file it will disable all usb ports on your system ..and preventing anyone from installing or copying files to/from your system and usb devices will no longer work

to reverse this process/access do the same as above but copy/paste these 2 lines

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor]

"Start"=dword:00000003

save the file name as

enableUSB.reg

Now when you double click the file it will enable all usb ports on your system ..and allowing access to installing or copying files to/from your system and connecting devices to your system.

This has been tested on WIndows 98/XP ..and may not work on Vista/Windows 7

I plug my usb in but the folder doesnt appear

Hello

Make sure that your USB hardware drivers are up to date. The drivers are the hardware-specific interface between Windows and the USB ports. Getting updates to these drivers will depend on the manufacturer of your computer, or the manufacturer of your USB port add-in if the USB ports are on an expansion card, so you'll need to check with them.

If you're running Windows XP, run the system file checker to ensure that Windows itself is not damaged

An up-to-date spyware and virus scan wouldn't hurt either. If any software came with the devices you're having trouble with, make sure that's up to date, and installed properly.

If you have checked all these and the problem persists try plugging it into another laptop to see if it works,if it doesnt then you have a faulty usb but if it does then you have a bad usb port on your laptop

Trouble accessing files on usb

It is probably a driver error on your operating system. I suggest trying a couple different ports- if that doesnt work try a different computer. If that doesnt work most likely your drive file system is damaged and needs to be formatted. Good luck!

My mp3 doesnt connect into my usb it just disconnects and starts to charge can you help me

I assume from your description that either you are running a version of Windows older than XP/2000 or you need a special driver. Here is a link for the driver(s) you will need. Just enter your model number and select your version of Windows. Download and run the file and you should be up and running shortly.

Usb 2.0 windows 98

Go to  http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/usbmsd98.php  and read it carefully.  Download the correct version of nusb and follow the installation instuctions to the letter!  Be prepared to spend a little time identifying any software in your Add/remove list that you don't recognize - don't guess - and remove USB devices from Safe Mode, to be certain you don't miss any.
If your mobo is USB 2.0 capable, you should now have it; if it's not, at least you'll have a generic USB 1.1 facility.  You should not need to remove viewer or album software, just the USB drivers and devices, but if you're of a nervous disposition, backup your system before you start!

In a situation like this u have to check meybe the usb option is been enabled in the bios enviroment,if it is enabled and the usb port doesnt work then u have to un-screw the laptop and check meybe the usb wire conector is properly fixed on the board,if it is not properly fixed then u need to connect it properly,after that u will need to reformat your system using a different file system either NTFS or FAT32.

Will print but won't scan with Vista

go to the system control panel and de install any of this devices drivers completely, unplug the device from the system.

power down the device and the system.

power up the system and device.

after windows is completely started then plug the device usb cable in to the system, do not use a hub, plug directly into one of the motherboards usb ports.

windows vista is supposed to have all required drivers already on board.

the link above is hp's site about connecting and testing your device.

if after all this and it still doesnt work try a different usb port on the motherboard and start again.

i have 6 usb ports on my motherboard and my hp printer will not work on the bottom rear port only, it works on all the others, and the strange thing is that everything else i have works with that bottom rear port, just not this printer.
