Replaced a gerber diverted stem. Water pours out of it. I also replaced the stem valves for the hit and cold.

There should have been a friction ring made of either nylon or fiber that goes on the threads of the stem that screws into the faucet. If this ring is missing, the stem doesn't seal properly. Remove the stem and check for ring. Also, when you screw in the stems, you should always screw the stem into the full open position, or it will not thread in all the way.

Tip

Diagram-Type Faucets

DIAPHRAGM-TYPE FAUCETS

  • The diaphragm faucet is washerless but is similar to washer-type faucets. A rubber diaphragm between the stem and seat creates a straight-down, frictionless close. As with washer-type faucets, diaphragm faucets have two handles.

  • Remove the stem by following the steps outlined for washer-type faucets. Instead of a washer on the end of the stem, you'll find a swiveling disc. If the rubber diaphragm doesn't come out with the stem, it is still inside the faucet.

  • If the diaphragm didn't come out with the stem, use pliers to peel it from inside the faucet and pull it out. Install a new diaphragm around the swiveling disc, then replace the stem in the faucet.

  • If the faucet is leaking around the stem, replace the stem's O-ring before reinstalling the stem.

Why does seal ***** loosen repeatedly?

your stem is most likely worn out beyond repair best thing you can doto save you any more trouble is remove the stem and take it to your nearest specialty plumbing store they can match it up with a new one and usually have most replacement stems on hand and they are fairly inexpensive. one thing to remember with new stems is the packing nut is usually loose so make sure you tighten it when you install it

How to replace umbrella valves 1998 fatboy

This is fairly easy on the Evo engines.

Remove top of rocker box cover.
Ease up old valve (not a good time for gorilla tactics here), being careful not to pull valve off of stem, leaving stem in the hole.
A little spritz of WD-40 down the stem might help.

Position new valve stem into hole, push down on center of valve until stem pops into hole.
If difficult, a dab of oil might help.
After insertion, GENTLY pull up on edges of valve to make sure stem stays in hole.

Replace rocker box top cover, repeat for other rocker box.

Go for a ride!

How do u raise handlebar heigth on f400 bycycle

There are only a few ways to raise the height of your handlebars (the actual grip portion you hold onto)

1) - Raise the stem. How this is done is determined by what type of stem you have.
A. If the stem is inserted via a shaft into the frame, then you must loosen the bolt in the center of the shaft to raise and lower the stem. This has limitations (a line on the end of the inserted portion of stem) you can not go past the max insertion line. If you need it higher, then you need a new stem that allows for more height.
B. If the stem clamps around the fork steerer, then you can only raise the stem as high as the end of the fork. In some cases you can invert the stem for greater height. If you need greater height, then you will have to replace the stem with one that has greater angle.

2) - Replace the handlebars with ones that place the grips higher relative to where the bars clamp to the stem.

In all cases this would be a good project to take into your local bike shop, show them what you have and ask them for the best solution to raising your handlebars.

Things to keep in mind: When you raise the handlebars you increase the distance from the controls to the brakes and derailleurs. If you want to raise past a certain point you will need to replace your cables and housings as they will need to be longer.

DO NOT RAISE ANYTHING ABOVE THE LIMIT LINES: This will cause the bike to be unsafe and could fail causing a serious injury or worse.

How do I tighten the stem bolt on the handlebar stem?

If you just need to raise the height of the stem, all you need to do is loosen the hex nut at the top of the handlebar stem with a box wrench or adjustable wrench. This is the head of the stem bolt. Once loosened enough the stem should slide up and completely out (if necessary) of the stem casing. There is a tightening mechanism consisting of two soft metal pieces that tighten against each other when the stem bolt is tightened. When this is loose you can raise the stem to various heights. If you find you cannot raise it to your desired height you may need to replace the stem and bolt. However, if the bike has been sized properly to fit your leg length, you should have no problem there. Once the height of the stem is satisfactory just tighten the bolt while keeping the stem straight and you'll be ready to go!

Kitchen taps drip and leak.I do not want to replace with new but would like to sort these problems.

dependent on the type of faucet, you need to replace (a) the washers, (b.) the spring and seals or (c.) the gasket. They all serve the same purpose. 1. turn off the water supply to the faucet. 2. double handle? (a)remove the center cap (b) then remove the screw holding the handle down (c)next unscrew the valve stem retaining nut (normally it is the one right above the faucet body). (d) pull the valve stem out, if there is a small rubber piece held down by screw remove the screw, replace the washer. if there is a rubber gasket wrapped around the stem, remove and replace it, if nothing is on the stem look into the faucet body you should see 1 or 2 small rubber pieces these are the seals the springs are right below the seals. Remove and replace springs and seals. 3. single handle? remove the handle retaining screw, normally covered by hot/cold indicator symbol, unscrew valve stem retaining nut, pull the valve stem and replace either the gasket or springs and seals.

there may be two nuts, one for the stem and one for the stem barrel.if not then the stem does just screw out,may just have a build up of something on it,try and working it back and forth to try and break it loose, careful not to damage anything.

Replaced faucet stems still leaking.Need installing infomation on plastic inserts

Faucet stems have an O-ring on the outside that seals against any leaking around them. You don't say if the leak is around the stems or from the spout. If it is from the spout, you may have replacement cups and springs under the stems that also need replacing. Also ensure that there is no dirt/sand inside when replacing them. This also can cause scratches which will cause dripping.
