2007 Kia Optima with a 2.4L engine The engine started to knock when driving home. When I pulled over the noise was only apparent at the top of timing cover on the intake side.

yes this engine uses a hydraulic variable cam guide , it moves via oil pressure as engine moves faster ive seen this a few times that the actuator for this develops a oil leak (oil drains back down to pan not outside) and it no longer maintains a proper tension in cam drive chain , I suggest you have this further investigated to see if this is what has occurred , as it can develop into a very serious problem if let go too long , also your mention that there is slack in cam chain isn't a good sign either

Im getting codes P0011 and P0014 on my 2011 kia serento. Is mean my camshaft sensor is bad? if so where is it?

These codes have to do with the CVVT(continuously variable valve timing)solenoid. I guess it is a 2.4 liter engine, the solenoid is located right above the power steering pump at the #1 cylinder in the cylinder head. If it is the 3.5 liter it is located on top of each cylinder and is accessed after the intake plenum is removed. Either way, the solenoid controls valve timing of the exhaust cam via the solenoid which uses oil pressure to advance or retard the timing. The first step is to verify proper weight of oil and level. If the engine is over due for service, get it done. If the oil is not an issue, then the solenoid is becoming sluggish in advancing or retarding the camshaft and should be replaced.

Check Engine Code P0011 Camshaft timing advanced Please Help?!?

there is an advancer unit that the chain sprocket is attached to that independently alters the valve timing of the cam shaft as engine rpm's increase or decrease . On some engines it is hydraulically controlled and on others by centrifugal weights . The cam position sensor always compares with the crank position sensor as to where the cam position should be at any time and in your instance the position is being recorded as not acceptable and the light has come on to get you to do something before the condition worsens to where the pistons hit the valves . If you have the expertise and tools needed to replace this faulty advancer you could do it but otherwise I would let an accredited shop do the job. IT will require removal of the rocker cover and the chain sprocket ,then the removal of the advance unit. There should be no need to go any deeper into the engine than that unless you drop the chain of the bottom sprocket. Then the job becomes very messy.

I have a possible major issue My 2006.5/2007 Kia Optima Please Help its throwing up a P0011 Code Meaning Advanced Camshaft Timing?

If the engine makes rattling noise too then your timing chain tensioner may need to be checked. Slacked chain will alter camshaft timing. Check timing marks to confirm that the chain has not jumped one or two sprocket teeth.

I have a 2008 kia spectra engine light stays on took it to auto zone code poo11 one of 4 causes 1.) blocked oil passage 2.) low oil pressure 3.) failed crankcase actuator 4.) michanical timming issue I...

For this code, you have to remove the valve cover and inspect the camshaft timing mechanism. If there is sludge under the valve cover, you need to desludge the whole engine. Remove clean, and inspect the cam timing mechanism for damage. After reassembly, make sure it springs back to the idle position.
the adjuster/solenoid is shown below. It has a valve that the pcm opens and closes rapidly to control the advancing of the camshaft using oil pressure.

Code p2089 dodge sprinter 2007

DTC P2089 A - Camshaft Pos Actuator Ctrl Circ Hi Bank1
On this code the cam or crank sensor is normally the culprit. I would replace the crankshaft position sensor. There is anothe possible sensor that can cause this to happen vehicle speed sensor and engine coolant temp sensor. The way it works is The ECM receives signals such as crankshaft position, camshaft position, engine speed, and engine coolant temperature. Then, the ECM sends ON/OFF pulse duty signals to the intake valve timing control solenoid valve depending on driving status. This makes it possible to control the shut/open timing of the intake valve to increase engine torque in low/mid speed range and output in high-speed range. But the most common problem is the cam or crank sensor Start with the crankshaft sensor and then camshaft sensor.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Getting code poo11 on a 03 nissan maxima. which bank is it?

When there is a gap between angle of target and phase-control angle degree, the valve will stop working and the ECM will trigger the P0011 code.

P0011 NISSAN - Intake Valve Timing Control Performance Bank 1
This mechanism hydraulically controls cam phases continuously with the fixed operating angle of the intake valve.

The ECM receives signals such as crankshaft position, camshaft position, engine speed, and engine coolant temperature. Then, the ECM sends ON/OFF pulse duty signals to the intake valve timing control solenoid valve depending on driving status. This makes it possible to control the shut/open timing of the intake valve to increase engine torque in low/mid speed range and output in high-speed range.

The intake valve timing control solenoid valve changes the oil amount and direction of flow through intake valve timing control unit or stops oil flow. The longer pulse width advances valve angle. The shorter pulse width retards valve angle. When ON and OFF pulse widths become equal, the solenoid valve stops oil pressure flow to fix the intake valve angle at the control position.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Possible engine lack/loss of power
- Posssible engine rough idle

Possible causes
- Harness or connectors
- Intake valve timing control solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted
- Intake valve timing control solenoid valve may be faulty
- Crankshaft position sensor (POS) may be faulty
- Camshaft position sensor

Tech notes
Since the Intake valve timing control solenoid valve uses oil flow to control timing, dirty oil can cause the valve to stuck open or close. Before replacing the valve, change engine oil and filter and reset engine code.

Hope thsis helps (remember to rate this answer).
