Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

I have a 400w crossfire amp, the green power light is on and the red prt light is off, everything is connected properly no loose wires but my sub still isn't working. Some time ago when the sub worked, sometimes when I turned the truck on the sub would make a loud wwhhooofff wwhhhhooofff then i would plug in my aux and could play music. Maybe a diode in the amp?

pioneer gm 6500 is a 4 ch amp rated at 60w-4 way to small of an amp to run your sub. UNDER-POWERING your sub is more likely to damage spkr than over-powering. my advice, get mono-block to run sub

Check the wires for short circuiting at the car body or speaker wires. Triple check really everything.
Make sure the connectors are 100% connected to the wires. There maybe some resitance if the amp isn't getting enough power from the battery.

Are you connecting positive to positive and negative to negative from the sub to the amp? If so, try positive to positve (+) in the far left channel and then the negative to negative (-) on the far left channel to. If no luck do the same in the other channel with one sub at a time. Try one sub at a time, Dont try an connect 2 or more subs to one channel as this would cause the amp to go into protect mode (red light you describe). Usually the positive wire has either a line down the wire, writting on it or has a red seperate wire with it when wire end stripped to connect it. Hope this helps and please rate...

Is the amp in protect mode? Maybe a red light on the amp. I would also open the amp and check the RCA connections aren't loose. It's usually a solder joint. Swap the amp out as well. Or check your power wire. Sometimes amps come on when it gets remote power, but actually the power wire has a bad fuse or connection.

Amp has power but sub doesnt work

You say the amp has power so you mean the green l.e.d. comes on correct? If so and you don't get any juice to your sub, check your RCAs make sure they're hooked up correctly. If they are check the wires to your sub, make sure they're making good contact, if its a binding post connection to the sub it can look connected but not be i've had it happen to me before. If the l.e.d. is red, you either blew a fuse on your amp, or your sub is blown, but if you get a green l.e.d. on the amp don't worry about those. If everything checks out and you still don't get power, take your setup to a professional and have him personally look it over for you....... hope you get your bass bangin!!!

Amp doesn't come on

Hello rheabarb,

You did not say whether or not you checked the wiring going to your subs. Many times, a shorted or grounded speaker wire will cause an amp to fail. And if the amp powers up OK with the subs disconnected, I'd suspect one or more of the wires.

Hope this helps.

Most likely you need to check the Fuse(s) and check all connections including any RCA's and Speaker Wire. Do that and get back to me.

Kicker 750.1 Amp wont play music

it is probably the rca inputs on the amp may have fried. was your cd decked turned up loudly before the power went out? did any wires accidently touch each other? If had worked fine and then suddenly stopped, than either a wire came loose or the inputs fried. try using different cables and I also suggest disconnecting power for 24 hours and then reconnect. If the green light is on then it is getting power and the problem is in the rca cables or the inputs
