Before addressing your problem I will need some information. Are you using Nikon Transfer 2 software on your computer, another program or are you just using copy and paste? Does the camera seam to function correctly in all other respects? Have you verified that the cable between the camera and the USB port on your computer is good by swapping it with another known good cable?

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

Either you left the lens cap on or the CCD burned out. Buy another one on ebay. Happy hunting!

Nikon L820 will not transfer new files only even though this is what is selected

Usually this is a problem on the computer side, not the camera side. The computer file system does not know that older pictures have already been downloaded. Are they in a different place or have they been deleted?

L820: Display dead in most functions, but not all

I would hope you have tried removing the battery, charging it and replacing it first already. The next thing I would try is to set the camera to factory default options.

Are you sure you did not change anything in the monitor settings?
Press the menu button, then got the wrench symbol in that part of the menu choose monitor settings and then press ok,
See what mode you are in and cycle through the possibilities. Don't stop where it says monitor off, but in one of the other settings.
