Question about Sunbeam Cafe EM6910

2 Answers

Hi, I have a Sunbeam Cafe EM6910, six months ago i had it overhauled new pump etc. just recently i notice that 9 times out 10 when i turn it on, it remains in the flashing green warm up phase and won't progress to the ready mode even though it is warm. Any ideas? I have turned off at the powerpoint as well to see if that resets it but with no luck.

Sunbeam Em690. The pressure valve doesn't move & the coffee comes out like runny water. Have descaled, cleaned heat etc. not sure whether it will be expensive to fix, or where to take it (melbourne s/e)? Or is it something I could fix?

Why no steam.Sunbeam 6910 cafe series. Turned on steam wand this morning and all I heard was a sigh, a feint try to deliver steam but not successful. Very little pump noise / action almost non-existent....

This could be 1 of many issues, usually the Steam pump (black or blue) is corroded and no longer vibrating correctly, the pump could be blocked, the pipe work after pump but before boiler could be blocked, the steam boiler could be blocked, the pipe work after steam boiler but before the steam tap could be blocked, the steam tap could be blocked, and also the milk nozzle could be blocked, if you feel competent to take it apart, it is easy to fix but if not take the machine to local service agent.

If you mean pumping, it could be it thinks it is empty OR you have blown the main board

Why don't the three lights come on after a warm up period?

Is it actually getting warm/hot? The thermal fuses on the Cafe Series often blow after a few years, so the machine doesn't go into ready state.
It's a replaceable part bolted to the steam thermoblock. Costs about $9.

The steam wand on my sunbeam cafe series is not working

Is it still making the correct pumping noise? If so, unscrew the knob from the end and unblock the steam head and wand with a bit of wire.
If it doesn't sound like it is pumping, either the microswitch in the left-hand dial is faulty or the steam pump is dead. To test the microswitch, pull the steam dial off and try to get the switch to make a connection (it's hidden at about 2 o'clock in the housing). Failing that you're up for a steam pump... about $80.

It's most likely the main fuse. Google "replace EM6910 fuse" and you'll find an easy guide.

Sunbeam em6910 leaking steam

Pull the steam dial off (there's nothing holding it on apart from friction). Unscrew the small screw in the middle of the plastic holder, and adjust the position of the copper steam tap using pliers to turn the steam fully off. When reattach the plastic cover and then the dial. The dial will now have the correct range to turn the steam off.

We have a sunbeam cafe series coffee machine that is 2 years old but suddenly under extracts on the pour and cannot reach the extraction pressure we are used to. We grind our own beans as well.

Generally, this is not a problem with the machine but with how you're loading the coffee! Sounds typical of one of these problems:-

Not enough coffee in the basket
Coffee should be filled and tamped to about 3mm below the rim.
Coffee grind not fine enough (too coarse)
Do you grind your own coffee or buy ready-ground? If buying ready-ground, make sure it is for espresso (fine) and not for filter or plunger.
If you have your own grinder, (like the Sunbeam Conical Grinder), then make sure the coffee hopper on top is securely connected to the grinder. I'd been using mine for years on the the finest grind (1) not realising the hopper wan't on right. Only discovered it when I took it apart to clean. Now my grinder is on 9-10 to grind for espresso.
Coffee not tampered down hard enough
You do need to provide a reasonable degree of pressure to tamp the coffee down just right.
Group head not turned tight enough
Push the group handle as far to the right as it will go, then ease it back just a fraction to have the right pressure.

EM6910 - I am having problems with the pressure from the steam. Any suggestions on how to fix it.

Have a look at your manual and see if you can adjust the steam pressure. I saw it recently as I'm having trouble with the red light flashing despite the water reservoir being full. Hope this helps.
