Question about Garden

1 Answer

On my CS26 Combo I have to squirt gas directly in the cylinder, replace spark plug and start. (it won't start conventionally) It will run in the 'START' position for a minute or two then it abruptly dies. I have tried moving the 'choke' lever in to the ''RUN' position after 20 or 30 seconds and it dies.

Michael try cleaning the air filter at the side of the carb. It sounds like its being starved of air.

Clean or change air filter. Clean, gap or change spark plug. Empty gas tank add fresh gas with Stabil. When spark plug is removed pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray starter fluid in spark plug hole before replacing spark plug. Clean outside of carb so choke works freely. Spray starter fluid into carb breather hole with air filter removed and try to start. if running replace air filter and cover. If no start disassemble carb and clean. If no start replace carb.

Gas not getting to engine

Check fuel line to see if it's broken. Check filter in tank to see if it's clogged. Carb jets could be clogged from sitting up with gas in them. Gas will gum up over time and clog the intake jets. Remove the spark plug. Squirt a few drops of gas into the cylinder. Replace the sparkplug and try to start the engine. If it starts and runs it may pull enough fuel to clean itself out.

First off you should never use starting fluid on a 2 cycle engine. Serious damage to the piston and combustion chamber could result. Try changing the spark plug and if it's neccessary to prime to start use a squirt bottle with the same fuel/oil mixture as required to run your machine. Try squirting a small amount into the combustion chamber through the spark plug hole. Squirt, replace spark plug, and start. Starting fluid also washes the cylinder of an oil and it could cause a siezure of the piston.

The slow circuit on one carburetor may be plugged. But bad spark plug caps could also be the culprit along with one plug being fouled. Try a squirt of carburetor cleaner in the gas line for the jets. Check the OHMs on the spark plug caps should be 5000 OHMs . If it is higher or lower replace the cap or cap/wire. Either the cap unscrews off the end of the wire or the wire is removed by unscrewing the cap on the coil.

Did you squirt some gas in the cylinder to see if it would fire? Check the spark by laying the spark plug on the head, or holding it there with rubber handles, attached to the plug wire, see if you get a spark, if that checks out, you have spark, open up the air filter and peek in the carb, twist the throttle to see if gas comes shooting out. If not, squirt a little gas in the carb, try it, fire? check the fuel filter, pump, carbs could be gummed up. Did you get the jets clean? Run a wire through them to see if they are clear? Blow through them to check. Check it out.

Cannot start my trimmer, even change the spark

Take off the air cleaner and squirt gas in the carb. If it fires it is not getting gas from the tank. If it does not fire pull the spark plug and squirt a little gas in the cylinder. Replace the plug and try starting it. If it fires it is not getting gas from the carb.

73 xlch sportster carburator problem

i would take the spark plugs out and hook them up to the spark plug wires and have someone start turning the engine over. i would either use the side of your engine cylinders or a piece of metal and see if you actually have a spark going from the ignition coil to the spark plug.
