SOURCE: how to upgrade my twinhead notebook hard disk?

I've never had the pleasure of working on one of these. What I do when trying to find the hard drive in a machine I'm not familiar with is put my ear down to the machine, start it, and listen for the hard drive to kick in. This let's me know where it is, then I look the machine over to figure out how to get to it systematically. On most laptops, there is a cover on the bottom or the side that hides the hard drive. If on the side, it's generally a caddy that is held by a screw on the bottom, and the hard drive slides out with it. On some models they put the hard drive under the keyboard or palm rest/touch pad. So, listen to find out the location of the drive, then look for a cover on the side or bottom in that area. If there's not a cover, then remove the keyboard and check if you can see it. I know this isn't the answer you were looking for, unfortunately there's no manuals on line, but I hope this helps, and get you started in the right direction.

SOURCE: Panasonic CF-M34 upgrade

I know those units. worked on some in <LA..the issue here is that the board level bios chips were special, and had a security code installed. the reason was to ensure that no one could hack them. the hard drives must be identical to those that were removed. is that the case?

and this sort of thing is a higher level of work, than fixya compensates for.

let me know what you wish to do.

Hi, own a Sony Vaio VGN P530H with hardisk Toshiba MK6028GAL damaged. as forced to replace unit, wonder could install a higher capacity? Brand & model if available please!!! thanks to all of you!!!

The VAIO VGN-T350 is a notebook computer designed and distributed by Sony.
The hard drive on your Sony VAIO VGN-T350, which is the unit that stores data, consists of many clusters of data that can be rewritten with new data.
If you are looking for a memory capacity upgrade, or if your old hard drive is having errors, it's time for an upgrade.
Upgrading the hard drive on your Sony VAIO will require the use of a screwdriver and will take you about 30 minutes to complete.

Turn off your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and remove the power cord and any other peripheral components.
Turn over your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and locate the hard drive chamber on the bottom of your laptop. It will be clearly labeled.

Use the screwdriver to remove the screw holding the lid in place.
Gently lift the hard drive and its cage away from your laptop and disconnect the data cord.
Remove the four screws located at the corners, and then remove your old hard drive from its cage.
Place your new internal laptop hard drive into the cage and replace the screws.
Connect the data cord to your new hard drive and place your new hard drive into its chamber.
Close the lid and replace the screw to complete the operation.

This might not be your specific laptop it might give you an insight into the hard drive installation.

Ebay this hard drive should fit there are smaller capacity drives that will be compatible.

How do I upgrade my SONY VAIO 100GB Ultra ATA/100 hard drive?

Ensure the power is disconnected and the battery is removed. Remove the harddrive access panel, and remove the HDD. Fit the new one (you will need an IDE model). Then install the Operating System.

NR serise wont detect hdd in bios

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

CMOS SHADOWED

One this may be a sign of a bad hard drive or missing or corrupt boot files. Depending on what operating system your running you may need to re-install again. Get the disk that came with the device and re-install software again. Sometimes you can take out the battery the main battery not the CMOS battery and unplug everything from the device wait about 20 or 30 seconds and place the battery back in the slot and plug it back in and start up again.
You will not know until you attempt to load the recovery disk or factory restore disk back in again if the drive is bad. If the drive is bad you will not be able to install anything in this case you may need another hard drive. More than likely if you have Windows XP or 7 installed you can place the disc in and do a system repair. Try this first! It will tell you if the hard drive is bad it will say no hard drive to load it to or it will be empty and ask for another loading source.
If your able to get to the BIOS you can see if all of your devices are installed it will show in the devices menu. Depending on the BIOS setup not all of them are the same setup. My fix would be re-install the operating system again. Be done with it. Hope you saved your information you wanted to keep externally outside of the HDD. John

I want to upgrade my Sony Vaio VGN-FS630/W - which largest storage hard drives are compatible and what specifications should I search for while purchase?

From the age and specification of your Sony Vaio VGN-FS630W laptop you will need to buy a 2.5inch IDE internal disk drive if you wish to upgrade the existing drive.
The capacity you select will depend on how much money you want to spend as disk drive prices are much higher at present due to problems in the countries making these in the Far East due to flooding.
The machine should have come with an 80GB drive so you should be able to upgrade to a 320GB IDE drive with no problem - higher capacity IDE drives may be harder to find as the majority of drives today are SATA technology.
The procedure to replace the hard drive is described with graphics in a document provided by Sony Support.
You will also need software to help you migrate your existing operating system, programs and data from the old drive to the new drive unless you intend to perform a clean install of a new version of Windows.
There are a number of commercial or free utilities that can help you do the migration - Acronis True Image (commercial) is very good and effective but has to be bought - alternatively, Easeus Todo Backup is a free utility that can do the same. Paragon Software also offer several free utilities that can help you backup your existing drive and restore the backup on to your new drive - Paragon Backup & Recovery 2012 Free is one of these.

My acer aspire one has a hard drive failure on the following disks IDE/SATA.I diagnosed it then got the following report. HDD doesn't respond to system commands Boot sector damaged read time...

You need to format your hard disk. Please note that formatting will erase all you data from the hard disk and all the software including the Operating system.

If you have your OS master CD you can insert it in the cd/dvd drive and restart the laptop. This will detect the OS CD and try to install it. In the installation process there is an option "Format your hard drive". You should select that option. Then it will format, mark the bad sectors, create a new boot sector and install the OS. You will be just fine.

I have a sony vaio vgn-fj78gp. i have to replace hdd 400gb sata, when i install the xp operating system igot an error

The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Sony Vaio laptop could not access 1TB external hard drive

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this data recovery program to recover your files.

How to upgrde sony pcv-rx470ds desk top hard drive; what is the max gb?

Looks like this unit is a couple of years old by the specs.
160 to 200 GB would ba a good size to install in the unit.
It is easy to replace the hard drive. Just remove the old one and install the new by reversing the procedure. Just make sure that the jumper is set to master( which is how the new ones come jumpered)
