Starter barely turns over engine

My starter with a new battery barely turns over the engine on my 21.5 hp twin sears riding mower? I recharged it again and it will turn 1-2 revolutions an then stops? Please give something to look at.

SOURCE: mower will barely turn over. new starter and batt.

not 100% but i have a JD 345 that i just went through the same scenario with, turns out the pto cluch was froze up, take the clutch off (can be a pain, medium size gear puller a plus) and see if it turns over. new clutches are a lot less expensive than a new mower!

SOURCE: Whats valve clearance for john deere D130 ride on mower, vee twin motor

Bring number 1 piston to top dead center, the valve clearance for both the intake and exhaust is 0.005" cold, once the valve clearance is set tighten the lock nut for the rocker arm to 70 inch pounds.

I have a Craftsman 21 hp, 42" riding mower ~ 10 years old...when trying to start it, it just makes a loud metal noise like the gears are stripped. I'm going to try to remove the starter tonight...will I...

depends on the engine, briggs L-head opposed twins can be viewed by removing the sheet metal head cover near the starter, changing its starter is fun, as one of the bolts is under the flywheel, it can be changed without flywheel removal, with patience. Briggs Vanguard and Intek twins starters are easier to remove, the intek cowling has to be removed to see anything with starter in place but the starter can be removed with the cowling in place, the Vanguard has a few sheet metal covers that must be removed. If you've got a Kohler, starter removal is usually pretty straightforward, take the starter to a local repair shop for a comparison or test if you are unable to determine what's wrong. A decent shop will at least inspect it and show you what a known good starter drive looks like.

Mower wont start

First off a fully charged 12 volt battery should read above 13.6 volts DC, and easiest way to test if the battery or starter are bad is to jump the positive post on the battery directly to the starter side large post of the starter solonoid, if the battery and starter are good the engine will turn over if all it does is arch then the battery or starter are bad use jumpers from a good battery to the starter solonoid of the tractor and see if the starter turns the engine over if so then battery is bad if not the starter is bad. Hope this Helps Don

Bad battery or starter

Hook a known good battery out of another vehicle or take the leads off of your mower battery and hook a set of jumper cables from your car battery and see if it turns over hard still. Does the mower run good once started or does it not start at all because of the slow starting?

Ride on mower mtd will not start

Use a jumper cable from the battery to the post on the starter where the wire from the solonoid connects, if it spools up normal its the cable to the starter motor, if it continues to turn slow remove the starter and clean up the places where the starter and engine case contact each other (to ensure a good ground). If none of these solutions correct the issue the starter could be dragging and need to be replaced.

Riding mower will not start

Starter drive is stuck. Clean by spraying brake kleen on starter drive and blow drive with air. Might
have to remove starter to clean. Check for missing cogs on starter drive.
