Just add clarification. The function button panels lights all come on as soon as I press the foot pedal. The machine closes down and then re starts, only to close again once I press either the foot pedal or the start button.

Check that the machine will turn freely by hand. It may still be jammed.

SOURCE: Needle doesn't move the problem isn't the foot pedal

Same problem with my 400. I took it in to dealer and they said main computer board on my machine would have to be replaced. Fortunately, they agreed to get it fixed for me. My machine is 2 years old. How old is yours? I wonder if this could be a manufacturer defect on the machine? Maybe this needs to be addressed with Viking Husqvarna Corporate.

When it feels like the needle is jammed, open the bobbin cover and release the two black retaining levers, one on either side of the bobbin case. The hook cover that is visible will be released. If the machine turns by hand smoothly, you may have a piece of the broken needle, or just a piece of thread stuck behind the hook or hook cover causing the bind. This problem will sometime make you swear that the needle is stuck in something because it will usually bind while the needle is down in the fabric.

Have the Ruby Royale, the bobbin thread is coming to the top side of fabric, not getting full color. Have retreaded, new bobbin, no luck. It's a new machine and worked beautifully this morning.

Tension is probably the problem. Sewing heats up the machine and the tension discs may not like it. Also be sure that your thread, fabric and needle are correct. The wrong needle ( too big?) may draw too much thread from the bobbin.

Singer futura xl400 embroidery needle keeps breaking

The problem is being caused because the thickness of the material is not allowing the embroidery foot to land squarely on the fabric. The needle is then close to the back of the foot, and when a jump stitch is encountered, the needle hits the back of the foot and breaks. We used to suggest that people take a small wad of something and stick it under the presser foot lifter to raise it a little--not enough to trigger the sensor, but enough to raise the foot. However, that\'s difficult to do and keep in place on an XL machine.

However, a much better solution is to simply switch to a darning foot. Both can be used for embroidery, but the darning foot is spring loaded and starts out flat. Plus, it\'s much easier to get on, and much easier to get past the rim of the hoop when you\'re putting the hoop on.

One comes with your machine, but if it didn\'t, I have purchased several from eBay. They are VERY inexpensive, and my personal preference is one with a closed large round metal ring at the bottom. All Futuras, including yours, take a low-shank foot. They are very used by many machines and therefore very commonly available. I think you\'ll be very pleased with the results!

checked for a timing problem
Skipped stitches
1. The needle is not inserted correctly
Remove needle & reinsert needle( flat side towards the back of machine)
2. The needle is damaged
replace with new needle
3. The wrong size needle is being used

the motor could have gone out or the machine could have jumped time, you may want to have the machine checked at a sewing machine shop

Needle keeps hitting foot, won't sew

have you tired changing the needle--flat side goes to the back of the machine
it's also possible that the machine is out of time
or that the needle shaft is bent
if you've already changed the needle & it's still hitting the foot then the machine needs to be serviced

I have a Kenmore model 1690. The needle when it goes down does not hit the hole in the foot plate. It comes down too far to the left of the opening, making it impossible to use the machine. I have...

This machine, when you have it on straight stitch, will sew with the needle to the left. If it's hitting the pressure foot, you may have the wrong pressure foot on the machine. If it's hitting the needle plate when you have the pressure foot removed, it's possible you have set for zig zag and you have a straight stitch needle plate on the machine. I believe this machine came with 2 needle plates. One for straight stitch, and another for zig zag.

Bad stitching

Re thread the machine with the presser foot up and this will ensure the thread is properly seated into the tension control.

Use a 14 or 16 needle as they have a larger groove on the front of the needle to better control the thread.

Make sure the presser foot is down (it can happen).

The bobbin thread keeps bunching up - I have cleaned it and changed needles - what else do I do?

When you are threading the machine make sure that the presser foot is up, The tension disks are open when the presser foot is up, If you thread the machine when the presser foot is down the tension disks are closed, and the thread will not go through properly causing a nest of thread of bobbin thread to bunch.

Sewing with walking foot

Take the needle out and run the machine for a while with the walking foot fitted. Refit the needle and try again but only turn the machine over by hand to see if the problem has cleared. If no luck it sounds like the walking foot timing needs adjusting.
