Check for bent CF pins. Also remove the back cover and make sure the bottom right rear circuit has not come loose and is not shorting out the board

SOURCE: canon rebel xti digital camera mem. card will not lock into place

It seems that the CF reader mechanical assembly part has loose or out of place an internal part.

It may be caused by excessive force in pushing/pulling a CF memory card, or due to a manufacturing issueof the camera.

The solution is to open the camera, and check what is causing the problem and fix it.

If it's under warranty, I do recommend you to return it. If not, then you will need to pay for its repair, or do it yourself if you have experience, skills and patience in fixing electronic devices.

Such repair will require some philips screwdrivers, a soldering iron, soldering wire, and a st of tweezers.

There are in internet some guides to open and disassembly Canon XT 350D or Rebel 300d cameras. The disassembly process with the XTi 400D is very similar. You can Google fr such guidelines.

SOURCE: I have a Canon rebel

This could indicate a bad or oxidized conductor leg in the card holder in the camera. You can try to clean it gently with a shaved qtip end and at least 90% isopropyl alcohol. Just be careful not to misalign the contacts. The contacts are soldered to the main board, so there's not much to check except the solder integrity. I don't think the software can get "hung up", at least I saw no reports of any software reset, so this problem should be hardware related. Inspect the card legs inside the camera with a flashlight and magnifier.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

SOURCE: Sandisk CF card is in canon rebel xti and eject

Hello, and thanks for using FixYa.

Try pushing down the card a bit, see if the eject button sticks up.

If the eject button did not stick up now and when you inserted the card originally, then most likely the card has been inserted upside down. This may have also caused damange to the card reader on the camera or possibly the pins. And the camera might be unable to read cards in the future.

In that case it would be difficult to remove, you need something to grab it from the edge and pull out.

If the eject button sticked out originally, but the card still appears stuck. See if you can push the button further down, if this doesn't help, you still need to obtain something to grab the card from its edges to get it out. Avoid the top and the bottom of the card.

It is okay to pull out the card, the eject button only pushes the card from inside the slot, it doesn't hold on it.

SOURCE: can CF card pin be repaired on a Canon Rebel?

I assume you mean one of the pins inside the camera body itself? This is quite a common problem and I believe it will have to be dealt with by a Canon Repair Centre. However it is not the end of the camera and is worth having done although I cannot say what the are charging at this time.

SOURCE: My Canon Rebel XTI digital camera keeps giving me

Sorry, but if you've tried multiple cards then the camera has a fault. Do you have the skills, tools and knowledge to dismantle your camera, test it, replace faulty parts and reassemble it?

As you're asking this question to start with then, with all due respect, the answer to those is a definite "No".

Sorry, but there are just some repairs which you cannot do. As your dSLR is only two years old it might even be under warranty so you may be able to send it for a free repair, but even if you have to pay for the repairs it's likely to make economic sense. In many countries, Canon offer fixed price repairs for out of warranty cameras.

99 error, CF memory card was removed to download pix. put CF card back in camera, but now get error message. removed battery and card several times, including replacing with another card. still get same...

Err 99 could mean several different things, such as... Memory Card, Lens or Lens contacts....
Here's what you can try:
Remove the memory card an enable "shooting with out memory card" and see if you still get the error. If it works your memory card is bad. Try another lens if you can. Clean the lens contacts with a pencil eraser (be careful not to get eraser dust in the camera body or in the lens). Worst case scenario is, Err 99 could be related to the shutter failing which would mean a trip to Canon.

Why does the word, ''busy'' pop up on the canon rebel xti?

This is the camera writing to the CF memory card. Perhaps your card is a lttle slow, so you will see the message. I use the Sandisk Ultra II CF, labelled as 15Mb/sec and it is very very fast indeed - I don't have any lag with my XTi. Try a different CF, if it is fast enough, the message will go away. Ensure you format the card on the camera too.

New canon eos digital rebel xti

There have been several reports of CF cards that work with all cameras, except the Rebel XTi. It depends on the actual manufacturer of the card. Canon made a change mid-production that affected the data saving. Try another brand of card & you should not have that problem any more.

Image upload

??? These cameras take standard CF cards (and store images in standard JGP format) that can be 'read' directly by PC's with a multi-media card slot.

If your PC does not have a card slot, you can buy a USB CF Card Reader/Writer for a few dollars ..

PS always reformat the CF cards in the Camera not the PC ..
