Question about Dishwashers

665 13462k901 Kenmore dishwasher

My dishwasher fills with water then dies at motor start. All lights off. If I repeatedly hit start it will eventually keep going and finish washing. I have tried reset and powered down and re-started but to no avail.

SOURCE: Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher LIghts are blinking....

I just read this for the same problem: push sanitize, then heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, cancel, then open and close the door. It worked. The dishwasher is running correctly even as I type this.

my problem is the motor hummms for a minute or so and turns off. Could this be the capacitor? how do you test a capacitor?

I suspect for either of these units that the timer control boards are bad.

SOURCE: Kenmore dishwasher 58715142400 fills but doesn't wash

Motor has gone out..just like mine...Make sure u have voltage going to the motor, (disconnect the plug from the motor) and use an electric meter to make sure you have voltage going to the motor. If so the motor has either gone out or has been blocked by something! If no noise except clicking then motor has gone out. Looking at about $150 for motor.

SOURCE: ASKO 1555 dishwasher won't run.

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description " The anti flood device motor won\'t stop running but we\'ve removed all the water " It is likely nothing very serious.

The flashing lights are directly related with overfill scenarios for Asko dishwashers of this era...DW95.5, meaning the control is indicating an overfill has been detected. Whether the unit has actually overfilled or not remains to be seen.

In the event it has, the outlet/drain pump motor is automatically turned on via either the pressure switch or a float in the base if sensing an overfill and removing water from inside the dishwasher will do nothing to resolve this error, but you can...

**before proceeding turn the dishwasher power off via the home breaker panel, or unplug it from the wall if that is possible...most are hard wired to the home electrical...safety first**

The first thing to do is remove the toe panel/kick plate and inspect the base for water. If water is present, with the aid of a sponge, towels, or a wet-dry shop vacuum, absorb the water from the base.

If the unit works fine after resetting the power/breaker it can likely be chalked up to a drain back-up or obstruction in the drain hose or pump.

If not, there are a couple of other possibilities that I'd focus on.

**again insure power to the unit is off**

The first is the float and subsequently, float switch. If you've removed the service panel at the bottom, or toe plate, you need to locate the float and it's switch. It will be located directly behind where your main electrical junction is...

i.e.

macmarkus_4.jpg
Once you've located the float behind the main connection plate, you should see something like this image below,

i.e.

macmarkus_6.jpg
With the aid of a long screwdriver or if you can reach it, move the float up and down and listen closely for the switch to "click", indicating it is indeed functioning.

Restore power again, and see if this resolves the issue, if not try this next...

The pressure switch too can cause all the lights to flash. It is the component which controls the normal fill level and the overfill detection...pre float activation. The float is primarily the last ditch safety to notify the user in the event of a overflow, back-flow, or leak underneath the unit to service or call for service to the unit.

It too is located under the machine and is mounted to the sump well assembly as shown, the large arrow indicates the switch while the small is the hose.

i.e.

macmarkus_7.jpg
The issue is possibly just the hose going to the switch is clogged with debris such as dirt, detergent buildup etc and will be remedied by blowing it out.

The best way to do this is to remove this hose at the switch in the location indicated above, be very careful as to not break the hose off with the part of the switch inside, they can be delicate.

I typically work it loose with a tiny screw driver gently working it away from the switch. Once removed, pour a small amount of hot water, white vinegar or "CLR" through the sump from within the tub...or you can try blowing it through with "lung power".

The other end of the hose is located at the back of the sump well and is quite vulnerable to blockages over time due to detergents, dirt, and such.

This is the location...do not break this or you will need to replace the entire sump well...no fun.

Large arrow is pointing back to pressure switch, small indicates connection to sump well, sorry for the poor quality...it's hard to get in there with a camera phone, ha ha !

i.e.

macmarkus_8.jpg
That's almost the extent of the possible causes of this error. Of course it could be the pressure switch has failed, the float switch has failed or ultimately the control has failed, but not likely.

This attachment below is also a retrofit tip from Asko regarding changes made to the pressure switch on the early DW95 series machines. you can identify if yours is this type by looking for the small white suppressor in the pressure switch...if yours doesn't have it you may want to change it while your at this repair.

Available at "repairclinic.com" for about $45USD.

Hope this helps move you forward, or even better resolves the issue altogether. Let me know of course, I will help you move further if necessary.

Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Gene, I have a Kenmore Elite model # 665

Hey Steve,Sorry it took me so long to answer i was offline and my add is not supposed to displayed when i am off line so sorry about that.
Now then on that dishwasher with the hum and no water circulation it sounds as if the main wash motor is jammed up for some reason it could be that the motor itself is defective or as simple as something such a piece of debris such as broken glass or almost anything caught in the motor causing it to not turn on,by disassembling the wash motor you can see if something is caught in,if nothing is caught in its a (sorry to say) the motor itself thats bad and would need to replaced. The reason the water drains even though it will not circulate is because of the separate drain pump that is working Please reply back after disassembling the pump to check for debris if ya need further assistance.
Thanks for using Fixya.Com,GENE

Light flashes 7 times then pauses and blinks 7 times again, and keeps repeating

Temperature problem with water. Incoming water when filled should be no less then 1/2 inch below heater. If not, possible water valve. Incoming water temp. min after fill. 120 degrees. Missaligned door. One of door switches not activating. Bad circulation motor. Not throwing water over heater. Tech.sheet behind bottom panel. Will tell you. Shorted heater. When bottom panel is removed. Look for signs of water leaks. Hard water deposits on floor.

Sounds like the motor is stuck. If your careful you can unplug the dishwasher or turn the breaker off, take the bottom panel off and reach in with your finger and spin the motor assembly.

Dishwasher not working. lights come on but dishwasher will not start. when you hit cancel/stop, 2 minutes appear and there is a huming sound and it counts down and goes off. When u turn on the wash cycle,...

the dw is probably full of water because the motor didnt pump it out
because the impellor on the motor has stripped thread and not drainning the water when u hit cancel /stop the timer is asking the d/w to drain and end the cycle. If u wait 2 mints after u start the machine do u then here a hum from the motor trying to wash
if the d/w dosnt have water in it and you turn it on it should fill or there is a problem with the inlet water valve or timer or no power to the water valve a appliance tech should determine this probably more than normall person should attempt
( solv ya prob)

Washer will not start up

check the manual. it sounds like a warning that would be in the troubleshooting section at the back.
usually the motor comes on to discharge any remaining water that could have been left in the bottom, then it fills. if it never gets to fill, then the problem is likely the pump motor unit. especially if you hear it try to run, but then it stops. it could be the fill valve too. if it runs to drain and then trys to fill but the valve does not open, it will not run.
it could also be a timer or capacitor.
good luck

Dishwasher fill with water then just hums

the hum is probably the main pump powered up but not turning. the pump is an induction motor and a usual fault is the motor capacitor. try to access it, find the value of the capacitor and replace. it is a cheap part
