Canon PIXMA MP130 "check ink tank" message

Same problem but it stays in the "check ink tank" even after reebooting, pressing OK button, or Pressing "Menu" button. After unpluggin the cord
I have tried averything. What can I do next?I t was working fine till I moved it, carefully I might add. First time I used it again the paper jammed in it, I cleaned the rollers then I had the ink check message and it started moving to the left with a zipper noise when it stopped instead of moving to the right. It won't go to the center to be changed, and I have changed everything!! including the cartiage holder that hold the tanks! Someone told me it got off it track but how do I get in back on track?? I'. ve tried everything but taking it apart to see what's the matter is. I love this printer and really want it working again. Everything works but the ink print part.. I desperately need it for my part time job anyone out there has a solution, I need to know. Thank you, ladytstarlight

    Frist I don't have a printer button, I have copy, scan, photo, Photp index sheet, menu, _, +, ok, black, color, stop/reset, buttons only with the power button on the side. Second I haven't gotten any button but the scan button to work since the ink tank message came on. Any other soultions, its still not working.

    It never even acknowledge that the cartiage was gone, still the check ink messge and it still banging back and forth inside not stopping in the center of the machine like its supposed to. Its banging soo hard when it hits the side of the machine that is it knocking out the ink jets out of the ink holder! REfused to do anything but say "check ink tnks" won't acknowledge any of the other keys such as the OK button, or the reset button. Sorry to be such much trouble I was hoping the solutions would fix it. any other ideas? Thank you ! ladytstarlight

You must be careful to follow these steps exactly when replacing the ink tank or you will risk permanent un-repairable damage to the printer http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=105&modelid=10442 I am afraid your printer is no more but you can try checking that you have the proper cartridges and go through the procedure as outlined on that support page if all else fails they still make that model for @100usd

This should solve your problem so try this FIRST. If not, goe to bottom of the post for more instructions.

Solution: Press ON/OFF switch to reset the multifunction device

Reset the device when it is not functioning properly. If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.

  1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

    Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.

  2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.

  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

If the above doesn't clear the error message, do the following.
With power off, manually move carriage to center and remove the cartridge. When you power back up, the carrdge should reset and ask for a print cartridge. When it does, replace the cartridge. You will be prompted if the cartridge you replaced was a NEW CARTRIDGE. Press (+) next to YES if it's brand new or next to NO if it's the one you just removed. Then exit and the machine should recycle and the carriage should go back to printing position and the error message should be gone.

Try to reset the ink tank. To do this, please follow the steps below:

1. press button MENU, then Printer, then SCAN, COPY and again SCAN - they entered into the service regime.
2. select NVRAM ACCESS and further BY OK.
3. select SET Abs- m level and advance value equal to zero.
4. select SET Abs- r level (if there is) and also you will establish into zero.
5. you will turn off printer by button POWER.

1) Remove ink carts before doing or it may not work

2) Shut off printer to set after doing

3) Clean the waste tank pad (there is no "tank") after doing or
you risk gumming up the works

My Printer - Canon Pixma Mp130 says my waste ink absorbers are almost full, what do I do ? How do I fix this problem ? Please help !!!


If this happens, just turn off the printer plug,then hold the reset\stop button,after that you turn on the plug while pressing the stop reset button, then follow these steps:

To reset waste ink counter:
-Press Menu-Scan-Copy-Scan to enter service menu.
-Use arrow keys to scroll to "Service menu counter access".
-Press OK.
-Use arrow keys to scroll to "ABS-M DOT COUNT"
-Press Copy.
-Use arrow keys to reset count to zero.
-Press OK.
-Press Stop/Reset.

To clean physical pads (optional):
-Open cover (as if replacing ink cartridge).
-Locate waste ink pads, they are far right under cartridge slider.
-Pry up waste ink pads (inky, might want to wear gloves).
-Rinse pads in sink or with alcohol, dry.
-Replace pads. Make sure pads are fully seated.

"The waste ink absorber is almost full" message?


This applies to the CANON PIXMA MP130 and other ink-jets made by Canon/Pixma.

According to the user's manual, "Ink used to clean the print head is absorbed by the waste ink tank. When this message is displayed, the waste ink tank needs to be replaced, or the machine requires maintenance". There is no information about how to replace or empty the waste ink tank.

In any case, you can try the following to clear up the error, but eventually you'll need the waste tank to be emptied or replaced. And as far as I know, you can't find the replacement parts to buy, nor the instructions to empty the waste tank.

Turn on your MP130.
1) After that press: Menu - Scan - Copy - Scan or Menu-Copy-Scan-Copy-Copy in some models, it depends on the date it was produced)
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Enter NVRAM ACCESS
4) Select SET ABS-M LEVEL TO 0
5) Select OK
6) Keep selecting OK untill you leave the TEST MODE

Then turn it OFF and again ON. Check if the error message is still there.
The following is taken from the Canon website, regarding this specific error:

"Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk."

As I mentioned before, I have not found any way or procedure to empty or replace the waste ink absorber nor the necesary replacement part.

I have purchased a ''Virtually Mint'' Canon Pixma ip90 printer however, when I try to print a document a message pops up stating ''the following ink tank is not installed: black ink tank, colour ink tank....


Hi there you can try.
Following step by step resetting canon Pixma iP90 :
  • Before resetting printer canon iP90, start with printer power off.
  • Press resume button coincide with power button.
  • While pressing power button, release resume button.
  • Press resume button 2 times and then release both button
  • Green LED indicator will blinking and then stopped blinking.
  • When the Power LED lights in green, press resume button 4 times.
  • Press power button and the printer power will off. Otherwise off, depress again power button.
  • And the turn on the printer again, your printer canon iP90 should be response as normal.

Message-the waste ink absorber is almost full on pixma MP130


That is usually Canon's sneaky way of telling you that is nearing time to buy new printer. Used on older machines without chips on cartriges. After "almost full" msg, usually follows "waste ink tank full" after which printer becomes unusable. Solution: Google "waste ink tank full" reset tool and run it, that should do the thing.

Inktank problem with mp130

it's show u a red/orange light blink it's show u hae a refield cartig insarted u need to press red light buttons for 5sec. and then light blink off and only green light only show now give pring if again orange light blink press 5sec. don't give any kind of link on show messages in windows it's gone automaticaly if u have any quary please tell me...

The waste ink absorber is full.


You have to contact the Canon agent to get the waste absorber replaced. or you can continue it with pressing resume everytime.

If the error message is ""ink waste absorber almost full"

1) Enter SERVICE MODE By pressing Menu-Scan-Copy-Scan
2) Enter NVRAM by pressing OK
4)Enter ABS-M LEVEL by pressing <--- or ---> then OK
5)SET ABS-M LEVEL TO 0
6)OK
7)STOP/RESET"

If the error message is "" bottom ink waste absorber almost full"
Set "ABS-P" level to 0. Then "OK" and "STOP/RESET"

To clean the absorber, open the cover, and there are 2 small pads under where the cartridges normally sit. Put a pad of absorbent kitchen towel on top of the pad and press down a few times. The towel should absorb most of the ink. To give it a really good clean, turn the printer upside down while holding the kitchen towel over the pads and press a few times. You'll get more ink out.

It's a good idea to wear disposable gloves when you do this.
