Question about Garmin StreetPilot 7200 GPS Receiver
First, make sure that the unit really does run off of +12V. Most Garmin units really run off of +5VDC and there is a charger/regulator that reduces the +12VDC to +5VDC. Look at the power cable and see what the output voltage is. Does the unit has a USB port?

Here is the fix direct from Garmin...
The following procedure will update a file in your C5XX and correct the power issue you are experiencing with your Garmin.
A.) Let the Garmin sit without power for at least 24 hours.
B.) Plug the C5XX into your computer (using a usb port in the back of the computer) with the cable provided with the unit. Allow the C5XX to charge on the computer overnight (with the computer staying on). Proceed to “C” the following day.
C.) After removing the face plate on the front of the Garmin press and release the reset button. At this time the C5XX will reset and power on.
D.) Update your unit’s software. To update your unit’s software, click on the following link - www.garmin.com/support/download.jsp and click on Unit Software. Next click on DOWNLOAD. You will be given several choices to download. For most users, unless you know otherwise, select “WebUpdater Ver. 2.4.1 as of Apr 03, 2007 Download”. Next agree to the terms and conditions and on the last screen click DOWNLOAD again. If given the option to RUN or SAVE, click RUN. Next click Run to install the program to your computer. The first thing the program does is try to update itself. After that, attach your device (GPS) to the computer and follow the prompts to update your unit. If you are asked if you want WebUpdater to check for additional updates, select yes then choose only those updates that you need.
E.) After the initial update you will be asked if you want WebUpdater to search for any additional updates – select yes.
F.) When now doing a software update on the C5xx series using the WebUpdater, you MAY now notice an update available for the PLD software in the additional updates section. You want to download this update. This should correct the power lock up issue that we were seeing on these units. If you do not see this PLD software it is included in the regular update.
G.) Disconnect the C5XX from the usb cable and let the unit restart. A message will appear on the screen stating "Updating PLD Software".
Note: the screen will fade out and go blank during this process. Do no be alarmed, this is part of the update procedure, and the screen will return to normal within seconds.
Just as a note, when you connect the unit to the power cable in the vehicle, make sure the battery icon (next to the time on the Menu screen) disappears. If the icon does not disappear, the unit is not charging and you will need to check the fuse in the end of the cord. As a further suggestion, I would recommend you pull the power cord out of the cigarette lighter socket when the vehicle is not operating. This would prevent anything that could drain power from the unit having access to that battery power and leaving the unit dead.

Most likely your hard drive is gone bad. Push "menu+find" buttons then turn on, you will get diagnostic screen, it will show if your cornice drive is bad. It will say"Cornice Dive removed"

SOURCE: will not turn on
I contacted Garmin and they had me remove the microchip inside and see if that would fix the problem. It did not. So they instructed me to send it back in for repair. They gave me a return number and then ended up replacing the unit with a new one. My unit was under a year old so it was no charge.

Remove silver face plate by prying with your fingernail. Remove 4 screws, open and unplug the connector that the battery and speaker wires connect to. Wait 30 seconds and replug. Problem solved. Put back together and turn on. If this dont work, you have bigger problems.

No.......the C340 STREET PILOT has a hidden reset button. Put your fingernail in the slot just under the GARMIN name on the front face plate. Gently pull the face plate outward. Don't take it all the way off. The reset button is on the right side of the front screen just under this plate. Use a pointed object and hold the button IN for 3 seconds and unit will turn off. When you power it back up it will REBOOT.
